It's been years in the planning stage and troubled by funding issues, but the long awaited Sound Transit Crosslake Connection is in operation now.
Media Day press preview happened Thursday, 26 March 2026, and the Grand Opening for regular service is Saturday, 28 March 2026.

I'm bad luck for the Kraken - never seen them win - so you may not want me in Seattle much. But I AM trying to visit all MLB ballparks. San Francisco is in my plans for May. Seattle remains on my list....

Do you like Crowds?

Even without the Crosslake Connection, all forms of mass transit become standing room only on game day, and it doesn't matter what the game!

It was crazy this morning at Northgate Station and reports show the same across the light-rail system. As for me . . . catcha Later!

Yikes!

Looks like the whole city was onboard, or trying to get onboard. Mass transit is very expensive but cities stagnate without a viable alternative to the private automobile.
Seattle's "No Kings Day" rally took a hit in attendance with most people preferring to ride a train across the lake, on a floating bridge!

Caleb @ Classy Whale ventured to Bellevue, Washington, to take a ride on the first Sound Transit light-rail train to cross Lake Washington into Seattle.

I like videos where things go wrong, and Caleb simply had no idea how crowded his train journey would be. At least the video footage is terrific!

Thom @ Trains Are Awesome, is in Seattle this week after being delayed for the Saturday Opening Day event.
Monday works better anyway, and Thom shot some excellent video footage around the Link Light Rail system.

I gotta say that one looks cool!

Whenever they've opened a new light-rail line here, they do a 'free day', so I try to go & check it out/get my free ride. lol

One of the benefits of regularly scheduled service is smaller crowds with the chance to grab a seat.
I discovered the Hard Way what standing on a moving train feels like! :giggle:

^^I'm guessing that it takes time for one to get their "sea legs"

You can say that again!

Locals understand, but tourists are surprised by, the soil absorbs a lot of water and soft soil causes endless track repairs.
I was standing on a train that hit a warped patch of track on a hillside. Never let go of a handhold while standing, unless you want to end up in a seated passenger's lap. (y)

My preference is ofcourse to get a seat if I can, but sometimes - like if you go to an event or whatever, the trains get crowded & its standing room only.
So yep I know what standing on a moving train feels like, have had to do that a few times.
Still better than driving down in the city. lol

Never let go of a handhold while standing,
Yep agree there.
And deff don't try to walk down the aisle on a moving train.
Wait til it stops to get one of those open seats down at the other end of the car. lol.

Back in 2016 I was on a train headed for the airport, we hit a misalignment stretch that sent luggage flying everywhere.
Luggage on wheels went sailing down the aisle like it was engine powered!
The children onboard were delighted by the whole situation - youngsters these days.
