Just watched the first episode of The Fades on BBC America. Liking it a lot.

I'm really hoping his hateful, abusive sister becomes a fade in the second episode.

(The entire first season (or series as they call it in the UK) has been shown already in the UK. Please no spoilers, UK people.)

Glad to hear you're liking it so far.

S1 is great. Starts off slow but the pay off is epic. I really hope it gets 2 more series like the show writers have planned. If it doesn't, I'll still be fine with the ending.

I don't know why it isn't more popular. It's one of the best new tv shows, imo. Totally mesmerizing.

Agreed fingers crossed for S2.

Never wrote about last week's ep. Liked it, but the only thing I have to say about it is that it briefly gave me hope that the vicious abusive sister was dead, then snatched that hope away.

Cruel, m'lord, something cruel.

OK, you can guess what part of this ep I liked best.
Too bad it wasn't a) a good seal and b) her nose too, and also too bad he undid it.
Things are really getting interesting now.

Mac is a bit irritating at times, but usually funny. And his cold snake of a father needs a good thrashing, so I have some sympathy for him, as well as admiration for his ability to keep a sense of humor with that kind of family life.

I like Paul a lot. He's kind of drifting through life at this point, doing not much more than occasionally resist the way others are pushing him. Doesn't appear to have much direction of his own. Something Arthur Dentish about him.

I have a question for you...when this was broadcast in the UK, did they blur his ass in the wing-sprouting scene? In the BBC America broadcast they put a blur patch over his ass as he walked to the mirror, which annoyed me.

One other thing: I really liked the way Paul and Mac kept trading ice cream. Clearly these boys have been friends since they were 5, and that was a great way of showing it.

I watched the original BBC3 version online and no they didn't blur out his backside. Actually, there is the occasional bit of nudity on the Fades and none of it was blurred out. It airs at 9pm over there so that's probably why (programming after the watershed is for more mature viewers). It's weird that the U.S. blurred it out. It wasn't even like it was a sexualized shot of his bum. Odd.

tumblr gif of how it looked (minus the black and white effect, obvs):

Thanks for that. Glad to see it! And the rules in the US are unbelievably restrictive. The character is depicted as being 17, so showing him naked (even a non-sexualized shot of his ass) is not allowed, even if the actor is older (he was about 22 when it was shot). In fact the picture you posted may not be allowed on JUB for that reason.

lol, yes. They're so close it seems like they're extensions of each other at times.

Hmm. One with no dad, and one with no mother. In another kind of show, they'd be the two identities of a mixed-race teen.

Well, I hated what happened to one character.
Dammit, they killed the most purely likeable character! And that Neil needs to PAY.
Definitely hope there's another season.

Well, damn.

See, if a show was "doing OK in the ratings" in the US, it would be back for another season because that would mean they COULD afford to keep it. But the economics are all different for the BBC.
