You thought there is not much new to discover? Just today I saw a HUGE step forward in the field of video editing. This is just too awesome too explain, you need to see it for yourself:

automagical video enhancement through stills:

semi-automatic object extraction out of raw video material:

(kinda like "videotrace" if you ever saw that - just cooler :) )

another one about enhancing a low res video with hi-res stills through motion calculations for the b-frames

I'm still waiting for a video editing program that automatically extracts my favourite porn scenes. Any new achievements are useless.

In a computer voice:
"Oh looky! It's Jason 'p-lover' Wilson breaking into your store. Jason is a 19 yr old white male who flunked out of high school in 2004. He was on pace for a baseball scholarship when he started doing meth. He has two brothers and a sister. He likes snatch-n-grabbing cartons of smokes from liquor stores, long walks on the beach, and women who like to dominate."
*plays Robocop theme*

Yesterday I read that After Effects has a filter to extract moving objects out of an otherwise still scene...

^ that's not really new and relatively easy (depending on the encoding of the base material)
