Who do you think is the greatest singer of all time? That's a tough one to answer, but here is my vote:

I vote Alanis Morissette her voice is spectacular and powerful if not screechy in the early days. I also would say Joni Mitchell as I think she had one of the mosy beautifully soft and sweet voices, before she smoked it away.

Joni Mitchell used to be great,as you say. It's funny,though, when I was in high school and I would play her record my mother who say"Who's doing that Screeching"? It just goes to show how subjective we all our in our musical preferences.
As for Alanis, she's pretty good,but I like her music more than I like her voice.

Depends on what you mean by best singer? Do you mean a note-perfect singing voice? or someone who can convey things with their voice, even unconventionally?

In terms of perfect singing voice: Sam Cooke.

But I love John Fogerty's amazing, ageless rock voice.
