Just got back from seeing the movie. It was touching and hilarious all in one. I enjoyed the book and the movie did it justice. It looked like the local nursing home let out half of its tenants because there were a lot of over 65 there but we all enjoyed it. I swear my neighbor could have played Celia Foote, lol, and Leslie Jordan (Will & Grace) and Layfayette from True Blood, both had small parts in the film and Sissy Spacek had me rolling with laughter almost each time she appeared on screen.

You are going to really enjoy it. I listened to the audiobook and the Octavia Spencer, who plays Minnie in the movie, also read the part in the audiobook. The twins who played Mae Mobley almost brought me to tears but I had to fight it, lol.

I really, really liked it too.

Then I went to lunch with my friends and they found reviews that said it had been engineered, focus-group modeled, and "photo-shopped". One of them said the characters are designed to provoke maximum reaction. When I thought again about it in that light, it changed my perception some.

It is so entertaining to watch though.

watched it with a friend...during the movie, he told me that he might not be able to finish the movie because some of the scenes were pissing him off. Glad I calmed him down, the movie was great.

I downloaded the sample book on my iPad and immediately fell in love with it. I didn't know it became a movie, but I kind of figured when I saw it at the number one download spot. I'm a busy bee most of the time so I didn't get to finish it, but I'll be traveling in 2 days so I'll finish the book in between flights and hopefully watch the movie soon.
