The Jackson 5 will reunite in 2009, brother Jermaine Jackson confirmed today (Oct. 29) at a TV industry function in Sydney.

Jackson is in Australia to help launch a new "Greatest hits" TV channel for paynet Foxtel and confirmed the rumors at the event.

"This has been a long time coming for the Jackson family to get back together," he told the Australian Associated Press.

"It is just the timing, so what we've been doing is working on the music and all the logistics. It is going to be more like a family affair, Janet's going to open and, of course, the original Jackson 5 ... Michael, Randy and the whole family ... We're in the studio, we're planning on being out there next year."

The Jacksons received a lifetime achievement award from BMI in early September in Los Angeles, but brother Marlon made no secret of his displeasure with Michael's absence at the ceremony.

Asked where Jackson was, he told the Associated Press, "I don't know. I think he's in Egypt riding a camel or something."

The Jacksons rose to fame in the late '60s recording for Motown. Brother Michael had become a solo star by the late '70s, although he remained in the group through the 1984 album "Victory." One last release, 1989's "2300 Jackson Street," featured limited involvement by him and Marlon.

Perhaps it did. But, like Invincible, something that "big budget" and promoted shouldn't "have its moments". I shouldn't have to drop the needle around to get to the good parts, or at least should be able to endure the less-than-stellar songs.

Re: "State of Shock", yeah, I've got the Guterman/O'Donnell book, as well, but I agree with them (and you). Funny thing is - despite living in the US during 1984, and being a pop fiend, I was totally unaware of "State of Shock". When Weird Al did it as part of one of his polka medleys, I thought it was an original. Why? I was getting my music solely via MTV at the time, and there was no video.

"Torture"? Enh. The song's OK, I guess. And yes, I can forgive the video. Jermaine Jackson's "Dynamite" was perhaps an even sillier video, but I like that song. The B-side was even better.

Ever hear this version? Rumor has it that someone "clued in" Michael to Freddie's sexuality, and Michael decided he didn't want to be associated with it. Which is ironic on at least two levels, considering what happened afterwards.

You know I'll tell you.. That "Victory" album by the Jacksons had it's moments.

You posted the video for "Torture" which although not the best song from the Jackson clan, really isn't that bad a song at all.

"Victory" was a very enjoyable album. I think it faithfully represents the R&B sound that dominated most part of the 80's. And the single "Torture" was, in my opinion, the best song from that record.
Damn!... That crackin' whip still sounds devilish sexy!.

UPDATE

Michael Jackson has issued a statement saying he will not participate in a Jackson 5 reunion in 2009.

"My brothers and sisters have my full love and support, and we’ve certainly shared many great experiences, but at this time I have no plans to record or tour with them," he said. "I am now in the studio developing new and exciting projects that I look forward to sharing with my fans in concert soon."

The statement comes in response to his brother Jermaine Jackson's recent comments at a TV industry function in Sydney, where the musician said the Jackson 5 has plans to reunite next year.

translation...

"They leached off of me for long enough and are probably the reason I'm such a disaster piece. I'm presently in the studio squeezing out another over-produced, poorly written album with a couple ok songs, a bunch of filler and at least one creepy children's choir. It will be followed by a greatest hits collection a few months later."

I don't know if your translation is 100% accurate, but the "Greatest Hits Collection" bit is as sure as death and takes, Jasun.

Well, if Michael ain't on board, then the best they can hope for is that Janet accepts them as their opening act. But I can't imagine that happening either.

...ladies and gentlemen, Rebbie!

>>>Damn!... That crackin' whip still sounds devilish sexy!.

Shame Shannon beat them to it.

If Janet does that, I highly doubt that it'll be as opening act, maybe as a double-show type tour? Janet's last show of this leg of the tour ends tonight in NYC and she still has the world to tour, so we'll see. I mean it wouldn't be good if people went there just to see Janet and then empty out for the brothers.

I'd pay anything to see Janet live. I've never witnessed the amazing talents of Michael yet and would LOVE to, so I wouldn't mind seeing the Jackson 5, regardless of age.

Would love to see Rebbie do some of her tunes as well, I LOVE Centipede. Latoya can do 2 or 3. :D
