The Lost Years
Prologue
Sandy Beach, August 2009
“This is it, eh? The finale. The end.” She said while resting her head on his left shoulder, his left hand pulled her closer to his side by her waist, craving her warmth. “ Yea. The beginning of something new. Something big, perhaps?” He looked down to the beauty that rest on his left side, her black hair was blown by the cold breeze of the night; her icy blue eyes stared into the infinity side of the sea. She pulled herself closer to him, the cold had gotten worst. She is so sexy. He leaned down for a kiss on her forehead, right on her temple. She responded by wrapping all arms around him, hugged him so tightly, afraid that he might just gone and fly away. “Big? I hope you’re saying things like, change the world?” She lifted her chin up and gazed at him, what a stud. Charlotte always like his jaws, the first time when she saw him, she was amazed how good looking he is. He lets out a laugh. “Oh yes, I am going to invent an aero car or write a new book called Moonlight or something.” She frowned and smiled. “A twilight reference? I am surprised that you found Stephanie Meyer changed the world. You hate the series!” He grinned and brushed her hair gently with his fingers. “That woman makes girls want to be bitten by vampire, that’s something impressive.” She bit her lower lips. “You’re not writing something mythical are you? Zombie and human combo? Gosh, that would be weird.” It is a quiet night. The cold wind lingered the atmosphere. The sound of waves washed to the shore echoing in the background. “I think someone wrote that already and you know I am this big romantic guy. I probably will write about this girl and that boy, falls in love but couldn’t end up together, finally got back together but then the girl or that boy died.” He always able to make her laugh, he makes happiness appear to be so easy to obtain, he does it effortless. “Urgh, so cliché.” She snorted. They stopped talking and just enjoy the silence of the night. Everything seems unimportant, whatever happens, happen. We still have each other.
“I’ll miss you, lad.” She reached up and kissed him on his pink cherry lips, her tongue invaded his cavity, tangled with his tongue. This is the last night where they can spend their moment together, as a couple. They’re going to their respective university tomorrow and they are miles away from each other. She will be in Edinburgh, Scotland doing her major on History and he’ll be in Bristol. Last night. It sounds so sad, it’s like they’re not going to meet up again. “I’ll miss you too, beauty.” He murmured while they kiss. He held her head, his tongue slipping into her mouth, like a hungry snake wrapping around its prey. She lets him invaded his mouth, she likes this, she actually felt love. This is indeed last night, they decided to broke up before they go to university.
“This is a fresh start for both of us. I want you to experience this new world, a new environment and new stuff. If we are meant for each other, we will be together. We can’t escape fate.” He said back when they received their college offer letter. They were sitting in the circle of bonfire with their friends, a small gathering before they go on with their lives. As much she hates the idea, she nodded. She doesn’t trust long distance relationship anyway. It is foolish and impractical. She said that once to her friend. “You? You believe in fate?” She exclaimed with a nervous laugh. This man that she dated for a few months now, 6 months and 5 days to be exact and she still can’t figure him out. He is such a mystery, he is so different. “I am a hopeless romantic man.” He winked. She moved her head forward, the orange light of the fire casted on her porcelain face making her looks like an ancient Greek goodness that came back to life. “Have I told you how much I love you, Connor?” She whispered on his right ear. He chuckled and hugged her tightly. “You don’t need to, action speaks louder than words.”
In this cold eerie night, as the waves crashed upon the shore, as the crickets chirping back in the bushes, as the moon clouded by a flock of clouds, as the breeze blew from the sea, the two young souls embraced themselves with love and care. They might have no tomorrow, but, to say the least, they have today, tonight, now.
