So I want to start the year off healthier. I think we've all heard that red meat eaters store something like 20 pounds of undigested meat in our colons which could lead to colon cancer.

With this in mind I wanted to start a therapeutic fast. I came across THIS website. This fast involves drinking this lemonade concoction throughout the day AND NOTHING ELSE except a salt-water flush in the morning and some sort of laxative at night. You're allowed green tea now and then, but that's it.

This is carried out for 10+ days until your body detoxifies.

Has anyone ever tried this? Do you guys think a colonic would do the trick instead?

Any help with this is much appreciated... :D

um what? source?

I would be very skeptical about this Master Cleanse. The bit about having 20 lb. of undigested red meat in our colons is pure urban legend. In my opinion, the people that tout these "cleanses" are just in business to get your money.

During this fast you are taking in very few if any calories, and taking a harsh salt water laxative in the mornings and a harsh herbal stimulant laxative in the evening. This will give you a very unpleasant diarrhea, not to mention loss of electrolytes and dehydration. After a day of this, your colon and the rest of your digestive system would be completely empty. Why continue the assault for 10 days?

No doubt, you will lose weight on this program, including lean muscle mass. However, if you need to lose weight, there are much safer ways to do it while preserving lean muscle mass.

If you feel that your digestive system is a little sluggish, get a fiber supplement and take that daily along with drinking at least a half gallon of purified water. That will keep everything flushed out so to speak and contribute to your overall health.

If you had a lot of undigested food in your intestine you would be incredible pain and discomfort (ie constipated). And if it stayed there very long, could kill you. All this colon cleansing stuff is a bunch of garbage that is supported by anything in scientific literature, autopsy findings, etc.

HELL no - if u want to detox as it were i would avoid the therapeutic fast as it were and dont get me started on colonics ahhhhhhh NOT HEALTHY

if u wanna detox
1. drink plenty of water
2. eat healthy fresh produce esp the veg and fruit - esp those full of antioxidants
3. make sure ur gettin enough fibre
4. exercise
5. and my favourite everything in moderation (and sometimes that includes moderation :P)

its all about a healthy LIFESTYLE no about a quick fad to"fix things"

Your body is amazing at removing toxins itself, you do not need to go on a 'detoxification' especially one that involves you not eating for 10 days, that is called starvation and is dangerous for your body, and will also lower your metabolism - which will make it very likely that you'll just pile weight back on quickly when you start eating again.

If you want to lose weight, the key simply is exercise! It causes a huge mobilisation of fats and carbs in your body, and if you exercise regularly enough your weight will drop off.

I did the cleanse fairly recently... I'll write about my experience when I have more time.

But I do recommend it!

A nice detox I tried once is only eating green fruit and vegetables for 7 days (and drink plenty of water of course). Apple, grapes, lime, broccoli, beans, spinach, etc.

No solid food for 10 days? Sounds more like a disorder than a cure.
