They're doing very well with the Wii, and while companies are prone to coming up with minimal updates at premuim prices (eg. ds, then ds lite, then dsi) I doubt they'll put their current console in the firing line by announcing this soo soon, especially as part of its success was that it forewent graphical prowess in favour of game innovation.

I'm pretty certain that it is just a rumour. The Wii is currently selling the best out of all home consoles and like a lot of things Nintendo - no price cuts, no new colours - they don't need to do it and so they won't.
Their third party games haven't been performing very well, so they might develop an HD Wii if they're desperate. But looking at the games developed by Nintendo, the Wii is fine in terms of graphical power. Legend of Zelda looked great and that was a gamecube game and Super Mario Galaxy looked amazing too. I think it's more the style of graphics that matters as opposed to the amount of pixels each image has.
(Although Resident Evil 5 looks amazing!)

the wii is the "true next gen."everyone knows Sony and Microsoft will copy Nintendo with their next system anyway

I agree that the Wii is the only "next-gen" console, I do, however, wish they had done something else with it - something that ensures they get the best third party games as well as the 1st party. A lot of the Wii's game catalogue is full of a load of tripe at the moment so I am just hoping that Ninetendo can break out of this rut.

In the meantime I have a PS3 and XBOX 360 to keep me entertained - although nothing beats a classic Nintendo game.
I'm always waiting for the next "Zelda" game.

I personally think Nintendo got itself stuck in a rut by producing games that are too successful on their own console making it next to impossible for many 3rd party developers to get their metaphorical "oar" in.

I dont own a Wii simply because I was so disappointed in the GameCube (yeh, there were some great games, but there were not many that you could get exclusively for it - and many multiformat titles tend to be cheaper on the other consoles.

As much as I dislike Micro$oft, in terms of software I'd rather get a 360 (even though you are getting milked - the core system will in the long run, keep the price up.

Not really, considering Wii is focused more for casual gamers. The Wii is a nice concept but it hardly does anything for people that actually enjoy playing video games as a pass time. It turned into more of a gimmick than anything else.

I have no idea why it's selling so well, when the game catalog for it is god awful.

lol "people that actually enjoy playing games as a pass time" you mean "hard core" players? You mean 40 year old virgins?

While I agree that there are some really crap games being released on the Wii, I don't agree that Nintendo is only releasing casual games.

I also believe that by creating casual games Nintendo are reaching out to new gamers who can only enter the video game because of these games. And, ini future these people (perhaps not all) will buy the future consoles and their more "hardcore" games. And boost the profits of all gaming companies as obviously some people are going to experiment with other consoles too. Hopefully after this video games won't be seen as a geeky past time and people who play them won't be called "40 year old virgins"

I always have and always will prefer Nintendo games but I have a PS3 and an Xbox 360 for when things get a bit stale - the graphics thing doesn't bother me too much so I can go back to the Wii whenever I want.

it's a good idea kind of like x box ---> xbox 360; so, i guess Wii ---> super Wii??? but i do agree with some posters they need to release more skill intensive games along with their casual party games, but i would still stay away from the "bloody" games just to keep their image and to sell lots and lots of games/consoles to parents for their kids, and the older gen
