  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

The Queen is Dead. Long live the King.

So the brother of the King is in legal hot water and some are saying this will rock the monarchy, could be the end. They really don't know their history, a lot worse has happened in the past.

Edward IV had his brother George tried and executed for treason. Supposedly George got to chose the manner of his execution and chose to be drowned in a "butt of Malmsey". These Brits do have an interesting history.

I don't think there's any contemporaneous evidence to substantiate the butt of Malmsey story, so you're right to say "supposedly". It's included in Shakespeare's Richard III, but his plays were political in that they showed the previous Yorkist regime in a poor light as a way of promoting the Tudor monarchy.

Possibly the upcoming Press Photo Of The Year
