I just had to share this with a group that would understand!
A building rule for the students is no gum or candy allowed in the building. My class had returned from lunch and was working on their assignment. I glanced up from helping a student and noticed this one girl going to town -the expression here is that she looked like a cow chewing its cud! I nicely told the class that any student chewing gum or eating candy needed to deposit it in the trash or face scraping detail after school. One of the boys looked around and saw the girl I was talking about. He stared her right and the eye and loudly announced "So, you gonna spit or swallow?"
I couldn't help myself. I burst out laughing and turned beat red. I laughed so hard I had tears running down my cheeks. The girl jumped up and ran over to the trash and politely wrapped the gum in a kleenex and tossed it in the trash. The boy realized what he'd said and blushed -I never knew an African American could turn that red!
