The Titan 4000M is a Cyclops-class manned submersible designed to take five people to depths of 4,000 meters (13,123 feet) for site survey and inspection, research and data collection, film and media production, and deep sea testing of hardware and software.

Oceangate Expedition lost communication with the Titan on 18 June 2023 while diving to the Titanic wreck site . . . 5 people onboard.

Note: Titan only has one point of entry - the forward viewport, attached by 17 bolts - accessible only from outside the vessel.

At the time Aaron made this video the fate of the 5 people onboard the Titan was unknown.

They are likely sitting on top of the Titanic wreckage dead or very close to it. If it imploded, they died quickly. If they are slowly running out of air, they have time to say their prayers. Either way, they cannot be saved.

Historian Don Lynch said something interesting.

Most submersibles are constructed around a metallic sphere. And that construction allows the sphere to be released from the surrounding vessel as an escape pod.

It seems a "submersible" is utterly different from a submarine.

A "submersible" has no power to leave port and come back to port.

They are sitting ducks.

Even if it had an escape pod feature, in this instance, I doubt it would do any good. Of course, I would rejoice to hear that they are found safe and floating on the surface.

I'm in awe of designing a vessel that "falls" to the bottom, then releases external ballast to return to the surface. What strikes me is the Titan looks like a robot/remote platform used to send scientific instruments and high-resolution cameras to investigate shipwrecks. Not really suitable for people.

The thought of the Titan sitting on top of the Titanic so that every research trip to the ship in the future will see it... or even worse the weight of the Titan damages the Titanic even more...

Sounds like the Titanic isn't done killing rich people/tourists.

But, who will be paying for all the rescue efforts? Is that tax money being pissed away?

okayyyyyyyyyy then.

I am claustrophobic so I have to go lie down in a football stadium now after reading this....

Those fucks payed a total of $125,000,000 to see a bunch of twisted steel and iron.

I hope at least one of them ate something before the dive that gave them explosive diarrhea.

If one kills the other four the oxygen supply will last longer.:)

Do I care?

Shall we write up the draft to pitch to Hollywood as a drama or a dark comedy?

I don't know where you got that figure from. The cost was $250,000 per person and there are 5 people involved. One was the pilot leaving presumably 4 x $250,000 = $1 million.

I've heard that on the news and it's crazy how these people paid that amount of money just to see the titanic reck hopefully they be rescued. But from what the news said not enough air until Thursday only time will tell
