As engineering artistry, Supercars like the new Bugatti Tourbillon are impressive. But beyond that, Supercars make no sense to me except as eye candy.

I didn't know Bugatti was still a thing. I associate the name with the Roaring Twenties and the super rich swanning around on the French Riviera dancing to Josephine Baker and Sidney Bechet on the wind-up gramophone. I'm not really into cars at all, but the Bugatti marque appeals to me somehow, especially this model.

That's il capo Ettore Bugatti himself with his own little runaround.

What a beast. It looks like a rocket on wheels. I would love to take a ride in that,

16 valves. Oh, my.

And to think they even make Mustangs that are overpowered. Just imagine the trouble a young hothead gets up to in that. You can be sure it hears its share of cursing in Italian, in German, in Russian, or in Arabic.

9,000 RPM. Is the engine made by Cuisinart?

To correct you a bit, it’s 16 cylinders not valves.

16 valves...not impressive. I'm pretty sure at least one Honda my father owned had a 16 valve 4 cylinder engine!

Off topic, but I remember when BMW released a 12 cylinder engine in the 1980s. It sounded interesting, although there was the conflict that BMW was my mother's dream car (she loved a 3 series she saw a lot in the early 1980s near my school). Since she wanted a BMW, and I was a teenager who just to be ornery needed a different dream car, this BMW was ruled out!

I know little about these sorts of exotic cars, but I recall someone who was into the $$$$ European sports cars. I think Ferrari was the name he dropped. I can't remember for sure, but I do think he said it had to be owned by someone who was capable of dealing with it. He might even have claimed dealers would be cautious whom they sold to.

I've watched mechanic videos talking about the more modern Mustangs, which mention how powerful they are compared to what was once possible. Often, these mechanics will also suggest if buying used, buy a 6 cylinder model. Those are powerful enough, but not typically run into the earth like a V8.

Supercars make no sense unless the wealthy owners live in a world where supercars can function.

What I mean is - well maintained roads devoid of lesser cars, locations and destinations free of car-jacking thugs ready to take your car at gunpoint, social circles where people do not gawk at extravagance.

Outside a world of exclusivity, a supercar is a flag that a drug dealer has cash to dump.

Supercars are for dudes that are well beyond "fuck you" amounts of money. And, I happy they have it to spend.

And 64 valves with 4! Turbochargers creating a whopping 1,825 horsepower!!!

In the Bugatti Chiron the V16 topped out at 262.8 mph when tested by Top Gear.

The car takes a backseat to the engine, for me.
My thanks to Top Gear for connecting with Cosworth on the development of the 8.3L V16.
