They are really Busy

The places I like to frequent in my town have been really busy lately.


I am glad to see that!


You see, I prefer to go to local businesses and I was very concern that in this economy things would get really difficult for them.


But my favorite Mexican Restaurant was packed on Wednesday

My favorite Bagel Shop had no parking available this morning


and my favorite diner was full the last time I went a few weeks ago.


That is good news to me, and to this town.


I read somewhere that they did a study in Austin when Barnes and Noble wanted to open a store very close to a large and popular local Bookstore.

A case study by Civic Economics, a strategic planning consulting firm, found that "local merchants generate substantially greater economic impact than chain retailers." The study revealed that if someone was to spend $100 at a chain like Borders, only $13 would be funneled back into the Austin economy. However, if you spent $100 at a local business such as Waterloo Records, about $45 would go back to fuel the Austin economy

I am sure that similar percentages apply to my town
