Writers Juliet Snowden and Stiles White scribes of "Boogeyman" are rolling out more children's nightmares for MGM's planned remake of "Poltergeist," the 1982 horror film that made "They're here" the creepiest announcement ever voiced by a 6-year-old kneeling in front of a static-filled television.

The original "Poltergeist," directed by Tobe Hooper from a script co-written by Steven Spielberg, skirted an R rating despite its children-in-constant-peril, toy clown-strangling, face-peeling, skeleton-swimming medley of horrors. The MGM/UA release grossed $122 million worldwide and earned Oscar nominations for its visual effects, sound effects and score.

The story of a suburban home built over an Indian burial ground and thus inhabited by a nasty spirit earned further cult status when two of the child actors in the movie died after the film's release. Two nerve-jangling sequels were produced.

well OF COURSE they're remaking this film...along with every other good(and not so good) horror movie from the 80's.

let's atleast hope they don't suffer from the "Poltergiest Curse", like the original cast. btw...whatever happened to the kid who played the son?

Re: "They're heeere (again)" - Remaking Poltergeis

I can't believe this....there's a remake of Friday the 13th on the way and there's also going to be a remake of A Nightmare on Elm St. (with Billy Bob Thorton as Freddy *cringe*) and now a Poltergeist remake.....can't we leave the 80's alone. Come up with you're own stuff people.

Re: "They're heeere (again)" - Remaking Poltergeis

UPDATE: "Poltergeist" remake finds a very exciting director.

Vadim Perelman ("House of Sand and Fog") is in negotiations to develop MGM's "Poltergeist" remake as a potential directing gig.

The 1982 original, a haunted-house movie full of literalized children's nightmares, was directed by Tobe Hooper ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre") from a script co-written by Steven Spielberg. The film's exploration of an ordinary family's reaction to an extraordinarily intense situation likely appealed to Perelman, who delved into similar dynamics not only with his 2003 debut "House of Sand and Fog," but also with last year's "The Life Before Her Eyes."

The Ukraine-born Perelman once was attached to Spielberg's endlessly developing "Talisman" project, adapted from the Stephen King-Peter Straub novel, as well as the World War II drama "Truce" at Warner Independent.

That's Oliver Robins. He moved on to writing and directing, although he has one film in post production (at least according to IMDB). That "Poltergeist Curse" is so fake, I remember hearing (after the first film) how they had to get all new cast for the second film because everyone died horrible deaths, yet the family was back with the same actors. Just a crock!

Re: "They're heeere (again)" - Remaking Poltergeis

So, as I thought. He actually meant 'Tron too'.

How can they update the beauty of Bruce Boxleitner?

Are they actually going to remake it or simply update the graphics in the original?
