Hey everyone. I am pretty sure that I am going to be studying abroad next year. And one of my main places I would love to go to would be England (so I can watch the amazing football matches with all those hot soccer studs lol). Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a city on where I should study at? Does anyone know of a city that is gay friendly and has a good gay night life? I want to go someplace fun and gay friendly. help me out please. thanks

London and Manchester have the biggest gay nightlife in England. Personally I'd go for Glasgow in Scotland (but then I am Scottish). The people are very friendly and although there's not as many gay clubs and bars as in London or Manchester there's still enough for a good night out. It also comes second to London for shopping.

London is certainly your #1 choice.

Yet, you want to make sure that you can live comfortably in one of the most expensive cities on the planet (with a historically low $$$; you'll need tons of cash); and you'll be missing another great opportunity.

A chance to learn the basics of another foreign language. This always looks so impressive on your CV...in a global economy these days...

So, MY choice would be: Madrid, Spain.

Awesome nightlife and supperhot dudes with easy attitudes. (You know, what I am trying to say? Low drama factor and lots of fun around, all over the friggin place.)

Reasonable pricing of everything. You do not want to sweat too much over couple of beers in a pub, or do you?

And, yeah, Spanish to boot.

Think it over...

My choice would be Rome, then Paris. But London is wonderful, too.

manchester absolutely, I live there and the gay scene is the best in the country in my opinion and it's always growing, some say it's the best in Europe. The city in general is brilliant, really varied, friendly people, not as huge as london but with all the character and cheaper to live....http://www.visitmanchester.com/index.aspx also check out...http://www.essentialmanchester.com/ the largest gay club in England, I used to work there it's a cool place.

Another vote for Manchester, just because it's cheaper than London. I'm not sure about Glasgow. I have a friend from there and he's scathing about some of the locals. He's had many experiences of being queer-bashed up there, though I don't know how much of a real problem it is.

I've never heard of anyone being queer-bashed in Glasgow (but that's not to say it doesn't happen). I'm sure it happens in Manchester and London as well.

I've lived in a few cities and I have to say Manchester is probably the best place for a chilled out gay city. Drinks are cheap, people are nice, good Universities (depending on what you study of course) and everyone seems nice. (Except for the skinny ones... they're mean to me) :P

That's a wonderful, but expensive idea.
The UK is known worldwide for having many excellent and prestigious schools.
From your post however, you seem to be more focused on the party scene than your education.
Besides the overall expense, don't forget health insurance. When you're young, hospitalization is something for older people to worry about, but anyone of any age can have an appendicitis attack or other health problem.

In the UK. We won't ask you if you have health cover if you turn up at a hospital with appendicitis. We'll treat you. And more often than not, not charge you. Unlike...

I was totally unaware of UK health policies and thought the OP might be also.
Here in the USA (particularly my home state and other border states) are facing overwhelming health care costs because our hospitals do not refuse emergency care, even to illegal aliens.
Many pregnant women from less fortunate nations brave dangerous and illegal border crossings to have their babies here. The baby then has dual citizenship and is entitled to many of our financial benefits.

I just finished grad school in Manchester and is definitely amongst the best. The gay scene is great... excellent education, great social scene. Look up the University @ manchester.ac.uk

Education in England is a wonderful experience...I'm of for further studies in London but I would still choose Manchester over it.

if you go to London you can can go to harrod's though! such and experience... okay, maybe not it's just a department store...

come to leeds in yorkshire great place to work study and play good uni to

With the dollar being as weak as it is you're going to spend a fortune travelling abroad, but if you can do it have a great trip.
