So I'm planning on dropping my iPhone and crummy AT&T service for the Moto Droid. I have an appointment at Best Buy tomorrow morning to fulfill my preorder.

I'm still not completely sold, though. VZW is as expensive as AT&T (though VZW is worth it, at least). Its between the Droid and Sprint's Blackberry Tour. Two different worlds, I know, but I'm interested in cost at this point as well.

The only thing keeping me from the tour is the lack of WiFi. (well, and that it would be a HUGE adjustment after the iPhone) In my area Sprint has relatively great coverage, so WiFi theoretically wouldn't be missed, but I'm still not sure. The whole touchscreen to non-touchscreen thing would throw me a bit too, I think.
 
Got the Droid.

Best part: I sold my iPhone on ebay for $300. That means my ETF for AT&T will cost me a grand total of $5.
 
Let me know your likes/dislikes with it. I'm with Verizon and am currently in contract but am considering that phone. Sure, I like the iPhone's features and all, but no way will I switch to AT&T.

The Droid looks sweet, and I like the fact it has a real kb in addition to the touchscreen ones. The rest of the features seem pretty good as well.
 
The keyboard takes some getting used to. Then again, I've become used to the iphone's software keyboard which doesn't require effort to press.

The software is a little iffy, but this is the first device with 2.0, so the bugs will be ironed out quickly. The music/video player is laughable compared to the iPhone's but, since so many other issues were fixed with 2.0, I'd imagine fixing the media part is next on the list.

One thing that I'm having trouble with is syncing music. Moto has a media sync tool for PCs, but not for macs. I've been using DoubleTwist, but it crashes the phone constantly, and generally sucks. You can drag and drop, but thats still a mediocre solution.

Other than that I love it so far. It is a big difference from the iPhone, to be sure, but its great.
 
I've never had a software keyboard, so that won't be an issue for me.

As for the music player, well I won't be using it for that anyway so again not a big deal.

I am more concerned with the other programs, web surfing and the like. It sounds like that's part of the 2.0 deal you're mentioning, so I may wait and see how they work out the bugs.

And since it IS a phone, I'm really concerned with how the call quality is with it. I use it for business so that's truly important for me.
 
The thing I don't like about VZW is that nothing on their phones comes without some sort of fee. I got an LG Chocolate for its music feature. And while similar music phones from other providers allowed you to use your mp3s as ringtones, Verizon's would not. Instead, you had to pay for separate ringtones which were stored as different data in the phone. This was able to be worked around with something like Bitpim, but at the same time I don't feel like spending an obscene amount of money on a phone when I know VZW is gonna charge me up the ass for every little thing I want to do with it, when the iPhone is capable of quite a bit included in the cost of the phone.
 
About a week ago if I had to pick a phone, it would be the Droid... but now, I'm kind of thinking about the Eris. I read earlier that htc is going to update the OS to Android 2.

I'm still leaning a bit more towards the Droid though.
 
Will have to stick with my iPhone - it is unlocked and I use Tmobile when I am home in the States, the rest of the places I travel I just buy a sim and pop it in using a Thai sim now with data package it works as it would in USA.
Have looked at other phones and will have to say the more I use the iPhone the happier I am with it. Have had it about 9 months now.

The Eris is nice. However, for me, the Android keyboard is pretty terrible, so I need a physical one. Plus, I'm a bit of a power user, so I liked the Droid's bang-on up to date processor and OS.

The Droid is free of all that. You can use ANY song in your library as a ringtone, even if its 4 minutes long. For me, I just transcoded my iPhone ringtones into MP3, and loaded them up on the SD card and was able to use them. Verizon DOES give you the option to buy an app so you can download their ready-made ringtones, but it doesn't even come loaded on the phone. (which is a good thing)

I've had some slightly crackly calls, but that's usually when I'm in bumblefuck Illinois where service is a little spottier. In solid areas its crystal clear.

The web surfing is great. Its SUPER fast, and pages always render properly. Flash isn't here yet, but its coming.

Everything else works great. Like I said though, the music app is still a little iffy, but that'll be fixed. Right now there is a small issue with some apps not being compatible with the Droid's screen res, but developers are catching up as quickly as they can.

I got bored of the iPhone. The UI is great and all, but the lack of customization makes it boring. There's only so many little square icons you can look at before it becomes boring.
 
It looks excellent. I'm planning on getting two for me and my bf when our contract renews in January
