I've tried several times letting it find the Email settings on its own (it can't) and I've tried creating several accounts and filling in the settings on my own word-for-word from my Netscape mail program. I've copied them word-for-word from the Sympatico webpage. It still won't work.

At first, it couldn't connect to Sympatico. Now I'm getting a message that Sympatico doesn't support SSL security. (It does! It told me to put it in!)

There's supposed to be a 'wizard' but I can't find it. I doubt it would do any good anyway.

Anyone have any ideas?

Is Thunderbird a crap program?

Thunderbird is a fine program.

It's because of your Windows 98, gsdx.

Mozilla recommends installing IE 6.0 SP1. (Not that you actually have to use IE 6.0! Evidently the service pack for IE 6.0 tweaks the SSL settings for Win 98 and ME).

If you're on Windows 98 or ME and SSL no longer works after updating to Firefox 2.0.0.2 or later, Firefox 1.5.0.10 or later 1.5 builds, and Thunderbird 1.5.0.10 and later 1.5 builds, you may be able to fix it by installing IE 6.0 SP1.[1][2]

It's not Win98. A fellow Jubber who wishes to remain anonymous sent me a laptop he doesn't use anymore. It has Windows 7.

First, congrats on the newer machine with Win7. :D

Second, to your benefactor that wishes to remain anonymous ..|..|. That was a pretty cool thing to do.

Take a look at this link. http://www.cobolhacker.com/?p=810 It deals with I believe exactly what you need to know.

*UPDATE: From that link I posted, the issue your having with SSL seems to be that the INCOMING mail server supports SSL, and the OUTGOING supports TLS. So your ISP in its infinite wisdom wanted to make things that much more difficult by having you use 2 different encryptions standards.

No problem. Thank you for writing your stargate stories... I'm reading the Last Mission one now, and enjoying it.

There is a youtube clip of Michael Shanks at a convention where he talks about slash fiction. Thought it was hysterical. If I remember later I'll post it.

I found a bunch of them just now with a search. There's all sorts of slash with Jack and Daniel, but I don't recall seeing any slash involving Daniel and Jonas, and I certainly haven't read a love story about them.

I should look them up and give them another read some time. I've almost forgot what they were about.

Here are the clips. Now mind you he is specifically mentioning Daniel and Jack, and photos, but I'm sure he means this to include the fiction that is going on too.

Actually your story is the first for me to read about StarGate. But I was aware that there was a lot of fic about Jack/Daniel, no idea bout the Jonas/Daniel. Either way I am enjoying the story.

And without further delay, the clips I mentioned are below, the first one I like a bit more. The first one doesn't seem to want to parse, click the link and I believe it will work fine.

I thought I would keep all my concerns and questions one thread for awhile.

Windows 7 is so very different from Win98 and I'm having trouble coming to grips with a lot of it.

One of my major concerns is the amount of crap Windows loads up on the machine on boot-up.

Without me even doing anything, there are over 60 processes and over 150 services loaded and (for the most part) running. I've been trying to figure out what needs to be running and I've discovered 'Standard' and 'Extended' services. I'm guessing that the 'Standard' are what the average person would use and the 'Extended' services are 'extras' and aren't vital to running the machine.

On top of that, only about 30% of the resources are used, but the CPU runs consistently at from 50 - 60% capacity. On start-up, it runs 100% for up to 10 minutes and, on starting a game like 'Zoo Tycoon 2', the CPU runs 100% for several minutes (6+ minutes this morning) before the splash screen even appears.

This doesn't seem normal to me, especially when the same game is up and running within 20 seconds on my old system.

Any advice or suggestions?
