Tips on acting straight!

Anyways... I don't get the whole acting "straight" thing.. since most gay guys don't even act flamer from my experience.

I'm very str8 acting, I'd say that some str8 guys can be loud and very boasting type of Men, but I can be wrong, because I have never been around many gay men to know the full answer to this. Maybe I aught to audition for a very queer acting role just for fun. Do all Gay men giggle? I haven't heard a str8 man giggle except for one who is one of my best friends back east.

The problem is the standard for "flamer". For many guys on this board, anything other than a beer guzzling sports fanatic is "femme".

So maybe I'm off here, but I'm curious.
Why DO gay guys act differently than straight guys?
I mean, I like guys, but you'd NEVER know it talking to me or being around me unless I told you.
I just act like ME. I don't try to act like anything else. Actually, I HATE it when people don't act naturally. Can't trust 'em, ya know?

So what's up with the different styles or whatever?

I think "gay acting" guys and "straight acting" guys are just being themselves, but I also think they are inherently just as likely to enjoy another guy. But we expect it from the "gay acting" guys, and socially they get pushed toward it, or bullied into believing it about themselves, or it is assumed and expected from them. So, they try it.

But the "straight acting" guys are socially restrained from trying it by the same dynamic. Being a flouncing prancing hairdresser gives you the social freedom to be gay without anyone questioning you.. It opens doors. Being a sports-watching mechanic is like leaving your gay passport at home before you go to the gay airport.

Stereotypes probably help the gay hairdresser, but I don't know if they do very much for the gay mechanic. Oh, and they probably don't help the straight hairdresser either.

Well, the reason I suggested that this thread should die is that the original poster- an actor- was asking for suggestion on how to act straight on stage four months ago.

Hopefully, he's long since moved on to other shows and other roles by now. And hopefully, he figured out how to "act straight". Perhaps he won award for his performance. He never updated the thread, so we don't know.

So, there's not much point in the discussion- at least in this thread.

There's not a time limit for discussion. But this is the support forum, so the point is that we're offering support to the original poster and anyone in similar circumstance. That's why threads come and go here- once the advice is offered, the thread usually dies unless OP comes back later and offers an update (we love updates!).

Any topic is worth discussing (ok, maybe with the exception of circumision). I just think that if a support thread has been dormant and you want to discuss the issue, then start a new thread or post a "I found this old thread and I'm in the same situation..." update, instead of offering advice to a poster who is long gone.

Yeah, the thing is, my posts weren't even in response to the original poster. Other people said things I found objectionable while I was reading through old threads, and I was just compelled to respond.
