This being my 26th birthday and having never ever been in peak condition, I have decided to put all procrastination and lack of will power aside and finally do something about my body and hopefully improve my self esteem and actually be proud of my self image for once.

So here are my day one pics. Its summer here in NZ, thats why I wanted to start doing something before starting another (and yet inevitably doomed to fail) New Years Resolution - Today is the first day of the rest of your life, so why wait.

I haven't weighed in but will do so in the next couple of days - should be around 110kgs.

I will try and post weekly in an attempt to stay motivated

Re: "Today is the first day of the rest of your li

Hi joshbloggs,
Congrats on starting a new life!(!)(!)
How are you planning to get to your goal? Have you joined a gym, or are you doing this at home for now?

You seem to have the right attitude, so I'm sure you're gonna do fine.

Good Luck, and keep us updated!

Re: "Today is the first day of the rest of your li

I am actually a member of a gym - but belonging to a gym and actually going to the gym are 2 different things. I'm going to start out at home - going for jogs, I have some free weights and some dvds - pilates etc. Just until I feel less self conscious, then off to the gym I go.

I think I need to change my mind set, I've always been the "on Monday I will start" or "starting from tomorrow I will" - but tomorrow never comes.

I just need to take the bullet and just do it. I have to be strong.

I'll confess; I'm a binge eater I will be healthy or nearly starve myself for a week (unhealthy by itself) and then in a moment of weakness eat everything in the house or go down the road and pig out on junk food.

Its do or die now. I have to take a stance and make a real lifestyle change.

Hey joshbloggs, Good on you! I hope things go well for you; it's going to be hard but they say it only takes 21 days to break a habit.

Are you getting support and help on this one or are you doing it on your own? If you have someone who's close and who can catch up with you each day for a general "How's it going?" it can help motivate you to know you're not doing it on yor own.

Looking forward to hearing how things go. To take it on before Christmas shows you're determined!

Good for you that you're starting immediately and not waiting for some future event like New Year's. Too bad you're gonna fail.

You have a gym membership but aren't going to use it, until what? Until you don't need it anymore? You're afraid someone you don't know might look at you and think you need to lose weight? Yup, that makes a lot of sense. Definitely the road to success... now come on and get serious. You're not doing this for other people, but for yourself, so get in there and to hell with what other people might think.

don't worry about other people looking at you in the gym - most people there will only be looking at themselves & maybe the hottest guy/girl there but otherwise they don't even see other people

nutrition & diet are an absolutely essential part of working out - that is absolutely critical to anyone working out, beginner to pro athlete but so many guys overlook it or only halfass it - it's not just about pumping iron - I hear guys at the gym whining about their results then I see them in the locker room eating a bag of chips & drinking a Pepsi - well d'oh no wonder you're not getting results dude, eating shit like that

you will feel so much better when you work out & eat right - once you start at it you won't crave junk but instead quality food

keep at it buddy!
