All Hope is Gone - Slipknot (much better live)

To be honest I'm struggling. Many albums this year have dissapointed me, and a lot of my music, even if it's around this year was released before that.

However my award for 'Most dissapointing and underacheiving Follow up' goes straight to PRETTY.ODD. the sonic mess by PATD.

My #1 release of the year (too lazy to list top ten) was Mindless Self Indulgence's "If".

These aren't in any order...these are just 10 albums that I really dug this year

Frightened Rabbit - The Midnight Organ Fight
Ferras - Aliens and Rainbows
The Airborne Toxic Event - The Airborne Toxic Event
The Killers - Day and Age
Amie Miriello - I Came Around
Anthony Green - Avalon
The Cab - Whisper War
Lady Antebellum - Lady Antebellum
The Fashion - The Fashion
Manchester Orchestra - I'm Like A Virgin Losing a Child

First of all, thanks TalkinToTheRain for taking the time to go over my list.

I agree with Alanis for the most part (maybe not THE best, but one of the best). But I don't know about the others beyond Duffy's "Rockferry". Kayne West's latest has been generally trashed left and right and certainly won't be considered the highlight of his career. In fact, so far it's proven to be the dark spot.

I firmly believe that Kanye's "808s & Heartbreak" is his best album ever. Mr. West was bold enough to take his sound to a whole new level, and what's most important, he finally found his singing voice.

I don't mind anything else on your list except for Zimmer and Howard's "The Dark Knight" which I wholeheartedly believe to be one of the worst scores for a big blockbuster film I have ever had the displeasure of hearing. There have been much better scores this year and Zimmer and Howard are capable of far, far better. I'm actually a pretty big fan of movie scores when done right and when they're not an assault on the ears as TDK is all the way through.

What you hated about the The Dark Knight score is what made me love it.
The irritating quality of the tracks is what makes it unique and worthy.
To listen to the whole album is a powerful experience that never fails to affect the listener for better or worse. It's like getting kicked in the head while you are sleeping.

I guess my favorite album of this year was Mariah Carey's "E=MC2", which really gave me what I was looking for, unlike releases from virtually everyone else I looked forward to music from this year. From Janet Jackson, to Madonna, to Beyonce I was disappointed. I did like Mary J. Blige's "Growing Pains", however. The one album that stood out to me that I expected to loathe was Solange Knowles' "Sol-Angel". That was one fit of creativity that actually worked to my surprise.

Mariah's "E=MC2" biggest problem is how predictable it was.

Janet's "Discipline" was actually better than "Damita Jo" and "20 Y.O" but got lost along the way.

Madonna's "Hard candy" proved that she's still human enough to make a horrible album after 25 years of career.

And Beyoncé was clever enough to create an alter-ego named Sasha Fierce so she could blame her for the double wreck that turned out to be her new album.

Finally, I will have to agree with you about the refreshing sound of Solange Knowles' "Sol-Angel". Maybe next time, Beyoncé should pay more attention to her little sister's advice.

and what's most important, he finally found his singing voice.

Through vocoder. Like it's never been done before. He's so genius he's the last to do it.

I have to admit that I'm shocked at how many people are including Hard Candy on their lists. I've never spoken to a person who even put up with that album.

No critic in their right mind will put Madonna in their top 10. I actually bought the album myself and it turned out to be a piece of shit like Chris Martin's latest pile of crap.

I am also shocked to see too many people who don't know how to turn the radio off. There are tons of great artists out there that are not on Billboard or being nominated for Grammys and MTV award shows which have turned out to be a complete joke themselves.

But some of you have very good lists and you know who you are. ..|

Here are some other albums to consider besides my top 10....

The newest Madonna album was meant to compete with the Justin Timberlake's and Nelly Furtado's of music. The album was actually received pretty well.

Yea the album has done well. It's the 3rd biggest selling album of the year and biggest by an american artist. The only people that hated it where big Madonna fans and even then there are a number of fans that loved ie my boyfriend.

I didn't listen to much new music this year so I wouldn't presume to make a top 10. I did like these, though:

Way to Normal, Ben Folds
Funplex, B-52s
Third, Portishead (not my favorite by them)
Little Honey, Lucinda Williams (what I've heard of it so far)

I can only think of 4 that really rocked my world this year: "E=MC2" by Mariah , "Spirit" by Leona Lewis, "The Fame" by Lady Ga-Ga, and "Rockferry" by Duffy.

'Spirit Deluxe' featuring 'Run' is my favorite of the year! Love her voice. I actually thought "E=MC2" had 4 or 5 amazing songs and the rest was really, really good. I'm a huge fan of Lady Ga-Ga now and Duffy is just amazing.

Now there have been some great amazing songs this year as well!

"The Fame" by Lady Gaga was incredible, in my opinion. Some found it repetitive, but I think it served its purpose well, but then again, I'm much more of a movie person than a music person.

You asked for our lists.. no need to be a condescending ass about it. We each have our likes and dislikes and apparently a lot of people liked Madonna's album as it had mostly positive reviews and sold several million.

Just because I was interested in seeing what other gays thought were the top albums of 2008 doesn't mean I was gonna jump for joy when I saw so many actually put Madonna in their list. And just because a album "sold several millions" doesn't mean dick. Sorry that you took a little criticism so personal, as it was not the intention at all to offend anyone.

For those interested in talking about good music, another album to check out would be by City And Colour - Bring Me Your Love. Just picked it up last night.

Cheers!

I turn off the radio, I just don't then log onto the internet and listen to music from obscure bands with random names, lol.

Ha ha, random names? No, I just like to expand and test my musical tastes as I cannot stand the stuff in constant rotation on the radio. Don't get your hopes up for Janet...she hasn't produced a good album since Velvet Rope which I absolutely love.
