I had sex with a guy over the weekend and after a little while I noticed that the condom had a hole in it. I don't know how long it had been there but I've read so much on this site that I made an appointment to see my doctor Monday. :(

Good job on making that appointment. That's the right thing to do. I would also tell the guy that I found a hole in the condom and ask him if he's clean. He probably is, but it won't hurt to get tested.

That's a real scary issue but you are doing the right thing by getting tested. You'll need to take a test a couple months down the road too. Good Luck

The condoms were in the car so maybe the cold messed them up. Lesson Learned.

This happened to me on Monday night...only we did not notice the break until he had cum & pulled out!#-o

i definitely got cummed in pretty deep but we used protection!!](*,)

It was only our 2nd time together, he felt very bad of course & assured me of his - status (as same with me)...but do you think i should take a test now....or wait a couple months?

:help:feeling confused.

It depends on which test.

The standard HIV test is an antibody test and it is dependent upon your body's immune response to produce antibodies. Most people who were exposed to HIV will show a positive antibody by the 6th week post-exposure.

So, the standard guideline is to test for HIV antibodies at 6 weeks and then again at 3 months to confirm.

Of course, there are other things besides HIV, so your best bet is to do a full STD screen in about 6 weeks.

If this is something that is very worrisome to you and you have the means, there is an antigen test that actually looks for the virus directly instead of waiting for an antibody response. The test is called a PCR and it is more expensive but it can be used earlier than the HIV antibody test.

Sounds good. Thank you.

i am not so much worried, concerned yes but what is done is done.
The whole situation though has me curious if this has happened to others (i am sure) & their experiences...

Not so much the torn condom, but I was living with guy for a couple of months who turned out to be HIV+ when he got the results back from his test.

Now we had played fairly safe, using a condom except for oral (but without swallowing), but at that point you go through a lot of emotions. On the one hand standing by for the boy friend who is falling apart and on the other hand, the possibility that you have also been infected becomes real.

I think I was in a similar space as you are, not really worried but mindful of what could be. I didn't book the test for myself until about a month later, thinking that either I was or wasn't and knowing a few weeks earlier wasn't really going to change anything. It turned out I was -ive, but it was a valuable experience.
