poppycock. Ive been on windows since 3.1 and I hardly ever deal with viruses. It's all a matter of being intelligent on the net and not downloading suspicious files or opening weird emails. It also helps to not use IE and outlook.

T-Rexx, you could have checked with your Credit Card companies to see if any fraudulent charges were made. In any case, you didn't and were infected. Sure it can happen if you're running Windows. As far as I'm concerned, even with all of the "triggers" you mentioned that prompted you to open that e-mail, I never would have opened it. Knowing that I did not purchase a $2,599.00 PC would have aroused my suspicion enough to avoid opening the e-mail. I NEVER open anything from any person or company I do not know or expect to receive. I also use programs that keep me from having to worry about it.

E-mails with viruses are captured and I'm notified before I even get to them.

Yes, I use Windows and I surf worry free, and I have for many many years. It's really only common sense........but few people exercise it, therein lies the problem.

But seriously, I know that Macs have obvious advantages as far as not being prone to viruses, etc. However, I think that Windows has advantages too.

I'm not trying to bash one or the other. I'm just trying to say, and to your credit, that if you have Windows, yes..... you have to be careful and use a little common sense. Too many people just buy computers and then use them with little regard as to how they use them. It only takes a little self-education. I still would not have opened that e-mail, regardless of whether or not I were on a Mac or Windows machine.

And to add another point, I could have checked all of my credit cards and bank accounts for pending charges in less than 10 minutes, and never once picked up the phone. Thanks to Windows and IE7.......

So what you are saying is it takes you an idiot-proof OS to be able to cruise the net safely?

I don't take any special efforts to avoid infection, I simply don't make stupid decisions to get it infected in the first place. I don't visit questionable sites, and I don't download emails to my computer (I use hotmail), I certainly don't download attachments I neither asked for or expected to receive. And if any of that should fail, I have a nice, efficent, low resource anti virus and firewall that filter 98% of the crap anyways. You like linux and macos thats fine by me, but I enjoy being able to use a wide variety of applications to accomplish a variety of tasks, and I don't get infected more for it.

You are a moron. I don't require my computer to love or thank me. All I need it to do is what I tell it to do. Computers are machines, not people. Machines break down, and when you get a hardware fault, there will be nothing your precious linux or macos can do about it.

And I don't need a philistine like you tell me how to install a dual boot with linux, I did it a long time ago, and concluded then that none of my favorite software were available for linux.

If you want a polite, loving machine, get a talking Real Doll The rest of us use computers to do technical things.

The fact that you need a computer to think for you speaks volumes about your intelligence and technical abilities.

The very best computers do what they are told, nothing more. The very best users think for themselves, don't need an OS to protect them from the big scary viruses

The reason so many people find windows buggy and difficult to manage is because Windows gives the user all or most the control, and most users, being stupid consumers, want to run more applications than what their system resources can handle, and end up crashing the system. That's not the system's fault. It's the users'. Neither is it the system's fault if the user installs incompatible software, or downloads infected files, after all, the user is boss under windows, and windows simply follows it's orders even if the user instructs the system to shoot itself in the foot.

Like I said, intelligent users don't have problems with windows, and it doesn't take much brainpower to know the do's and dont's. By your logic, you shouldn't own a car until they release one that will drive for you.
