So I haven't been on a "date" for something like a month now... It's not a big deal, I guess. I can certainly go longer without complaining.
But the process of dating... ugh. It takes so much effort, and energy. And to be frank, the returns have not been worth the investment. Meeting guys online, for instance, has yielded nothing--unsurprising, I suppose. Most guys who contact me just want to get into my pants, which, while flattering in some sense, is also kind of a turn-off. The guys who were a bit more serious, turned out to be total flakes.
So, the obvious conclusion then is that, this online stuff just does not work... at least not for me, at this moment. I do know that if I just want random sex, the internet is the place to turn to--but otherwise...
Where does this leave me? School, I guess. School pretty much consumes a huge chunk of my life--so maybe I should look there? Uh-uh. No. Unthinkable. Class-cest doesn't work, especially since I am attending a fairly small faculty, that is known for being quite clique-y. Besides, the gay male population at the school is pretty small, and that doesn't leave much choice.
The other possibility are friends setting me up, you know, a friend of a friend (of a friend of a friend, etc...). That would be useful... if I wasn't the ONLY gay friend, most of my friends have.
So there you have it, my exasperation with dating. I'm going to be optimistic, and probably keep at it (those nice email messages from strangers remind me that I'm not exactly Quasimodo here). But at the same time I'm going to start to focus on other things in my life. Like school, and ummm school?
