Kimihiko, I'm about to embark on the same journey you're on. I'm supposed to be closing on my co-op Friday. My garage is full of boxes, my room is full of boxes... It's kind of depressing, really...

Well , I've moved many times; at least twenty times times since I was 18 ... I actually enjoy it . Ok, I'm a nut ! I think of it as an adventure of sorts .. I get excited thinking about how I'm going to arrange everything ... I think about how my new neighbors will react to me and me to them ...
And; my home is up for sale , so when it sells .. I'm off .. back to Ohio .. AGAIN !

I will be doing the very same thing this weekend. I boxed most my personal stuff; however I did hire some movers to do all the actual moving and to arrange all furniture at the new house. I shopped around for the movers most wanted to charge over one thousand dollars but in the end I found someone who will do it for seven hundred, I think I got my self a deal (at least Im hoping).

Call me weird, but I actually enjoy packing... for the first two-thirds of it. That's always the part where things go nicely into boxes, and the boxes stack easily. Then it gets hard, with all those strange-shaped things that just don't fit, and boxes that won't close.... ](*,)

What I really hate is unpacking, because inevitably something you really need isn't in the box you thought it was, and taking everything out seems depressing -- after all, you just out all of those things IN.....

Just finished moving, and YES it does suck. But think how great it's going to be once you are settled into your new place and WHY YOU are moving in the first place.

So true -- the WHY can make a huge difference.
Moving when the building I was in got sold sucked.
Moving when the building I was in got condemned really sucked.
Moving when I was off to a new town for a new life rocked!

Moving Tip: Lable your boxes with NUMBERS starting with like 01 , 02 , etc ... then on a clipboard or notebook write down the # and then what is in that box ... IF movers don't know what is in the boxes , they won't be as likely to steal them as I've had done before ..... then I learned to number ...

I can't say I enjoyed it much.

After the divorce, the was sold and the dumpster came. It was amazing how much crap a couple can come up with and how fast that dumpster filled up.
Now I am pretty much done with my second move. Some what easier. Just rented my condo, reduced everything to bags and moved in with the boy friend. NO MORE LONELY NIGHTS,DAYS,MORNINGS,EVENINGS. If only the nightime went by some what slower, it would be better.

I kinda like moving. I used to move every 2 years when I started working 20 years ago. I bought my apartment 6 years later and have stayed here for 14 years. Miss have to pack and finding long lost stuff.

There's a pro mover outfit I'd recommend if I could recall the name. Every box going into the truck got a sticker and went on an inventory. They kept a copy, you got a copy. When everything was at the destination, boxes got checked off the inventory as they were unloaded. If any box came up missing, there was hell for the employees -- and $100 insurance (per box) that was the owner's to keep even if they found the box (and the $100 came out of the hide of any employee responsible for the box being gone). A friend had them for movers when he got married and was impressed, and not just with the dedication to making sure everything of yours got moved; they also had crisp uniforms, were very respectful, never used bad language... hearing about them almost made me want to move!

Of course, now I'd want to know if they were cute, too.:D

Unpack your blankies, throw them over the boxes, and make a fort.

This is the best advice you could concievably have been given! You're just going to have to do your best to enjoy the situation!! Don't let it ruin your holidays!

I met a guy last year whose boxes arrived but his furniture, sent by a different truck, hadn't. When he found the other truck had broken down and wouldn't arrive for nearly a week, he used his boxes to make seats, a table, and even a bed!
Blankets all over the place, of course.
