umm or err?

I prefer to fill conversations with non substantive dialogue when I am not sure what to say.

If you stick smart words in there you can end up looking like one of those crazy intellectuals with too much going on in their head.
 
I think the only real choice here is ummm. Although, should the options have been "umm" or "ehhh", then I really would have been quite bewildered
