Uncut and Puberty

I am hoping to learn a little bit of info from any uncut guys here. My step-son is 13yrs old and is starting to hit puberty. Couple weeks ago he asked if it was "weird" that he didn't masturbate yet. Guess his friends have talked about it and he is a great kid that doesn't mind open communication. He said that he rubs his crotch area and it feels good but I don't think he has a clue (knowing his dad, they can both be clueless). I remember my first time masturbating but being cut, I am not quite sure what he is going through.

From what I read, the skin starts to seperate from the head and then the newly exposed area is really sensitive. I remember talking to him about keeping it clean and he mentioned that when water hits it, it tickles.

So what am I asking? Anything you can share about what you recall about learing to masturbate uncut would be helpful. Can you not do it until the skin starts to seperate? Being cut, I didn't have to worry about that. From reading, some kids can go all the way to 17 yrs old without the skin beginning to come back.

Any comments appreciated! Thought this page might be a good resource. Definately better than what his friends would tell him!

Hmm is he socially awkward? I would figure that his friends would have clued him in on how this is done.

Thirteen is getting a little late in the game.

The separation of the foreskin from the glans usually starts earlier. During puberty, the glans begins producing a sebaceous oily secretion. The glans befores more mobile and it can typically be moved up and down against the glans during masturbation. The completion of the separation process can continue as late as age 16 but typically, the process is pretty far advanced by the teenage years.

There are other conditions that can limit mobility of the foreskin- such as frenulum breve. If your stepson has described something specific that he thinks is an issue, then you can discuss it with him but ultimately his pediatrician is probably the best person to examine him and determine if there is an issue.

Seriously, I never got a "talk" about these things when I was younger and I kind of wish I did. I didn't know that my foreskin could retract until about five months ago ... and I'm 20.

Imagine my surprise when my then boyfriend and I were messing around one night and he peeled the entire area back and exposed the entire head ... I swear, I thought he tore or broke it!!!

Thanks for the feedback. Anymore is appreciated. He has had a female pediatrician up until now and I have suggested to my wife a few weeks ago that we should change that.

It is very tough as a stepdad to talk to him about this subject. Kid loves me to death, but at 13 you are just starting to learn about yourself. I will be suggesting he look at a couple of the suggested websites.

While 13 seems late to me I don't think it's necessarily "weird".

To be honest I don't think it has to have anything to do with being cut or uncut.. I started masturbating at like 10 or 11 and did so for years in a not-so-conventional way that involved more rubbing than stroking and didn't retract the foreskin at all. His rubbing of his crotch to feel good kind of sounds like this. I eventually "trained" myself to jerk off the normal way after seeing enough porn and thinking something was wrong with me.

Point is, I don't think it's of great concern either way, but back when I realized I wasn't doing it "right" I had a bit of a freakout because my foreskin didn't really retract easily and I was worried I would have to be circumsized. After a lot of online reading one thing I can suggest is it's supposed to be healthy as you go through puberty to gently work on being able to retract it fully if it is tight. I'm always shocked when friends of mine in their early 20's are still discovering that their foreskin retracts fully...
