Underrated Artist Thread

Muse is a highly underrated band.
They're pretty popular over here (Iceland), but perhaps that's just because they're one of the few bands that has actually bothered to come play here... anyways, I love them to bits :-) - thanks for the "lip synch" vid, that was so awesome :D

Some of my favorite artists are underrated:

2. Garbage - this is my most favorite band in the world. I am actually glad that they are not mainstream. It makes them a little more special to me.

Love them, just finished hunting down most of their b-sides :D

Emiliana Torrini

To Be Free:

Sunny Road:

Dead Things:

One of the most heart breaking songs I've ever heard is "The Boy Who Giggled So Sweet" by her, too bad that I can't find it on YouTube.

George Michael- He has an amazing voice, and has made some amazing music. I just wish he would stop screwing up.

Kate Havnevik- Amazing voice, beautiful relaxing music. Featured on Grey's Anatomy alot.

Donna Summer- Way more memorable hits than Diana Ross, and yet never gets nearly the same amount of attention.

The Coors - they have some best songs from background to lyrics to everything else in between. but how many folks know about them

agree about the Rachel Stevens thing especially the last cd, it is the all that and then some even more so than her first effort.

Ok more artists for y'all

Val Emmich - I cannot recommend him highly enough! Both of his albums are just fantastic and from the heart. He could be labeled as a singer/songwriter but he is rock to the core. Check him out live if he comes to your town.

Here is a video for the song "The Ships Going Down" from his new album "Sunlight Searchparty".

Ross Copperman (ok maybe not underrated cause his debut major label comes out next week...but still he's great!)

Coconut Records - this is actor, Jason Schwartzman's new solo project. He used to be the drummer of Phantom Planet and has starred in the movies Rushmore, Marie Antoinette, Slackers and many more. The album features Kirsten Dunst and Zooey Deschannel on background vocals on some songs.
Here's the video for "West Coast"

I think Placebo are HORRIBLY underrated in the US. They're popular, and have been for a number of years in the rest of the world.. I think it's a shame they're not here..

Here's a video by them.

Placebo - Song To Say Goodbye

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGQfpLoI5FQ

They're not actually in the video.. if you like, look 'em up.

Björk, Tori Amos, Alanis Morissette,

um... when you sell out stadiums, have been nominated for Oscars or have albums in the top five sellers in history, you can't be considered "under rated" anymore.

no prob. i love supporting up and coming artists especially the ones that are really talented. its evident from just that one song. Joanna has some serious singing skills. ..|

Skinny Puppy.

They've been around for years but few people have heard of them. Personally, I think their recent stuff is their best.

Pro-Test:

And... uhhh... yeah, their live performances are something else.

Hmmmmm.....

* Jessica Simpson : Yeah, I know that nobody takes her seriously and think she's only a ditzy blonde bimbo....but she is a ditzy blonde bimbo with ONE HECK OF A VOICE ! The only problem is that she keeps fucking her own career up by choosing to write/sing silly songs and have a "bombshell" image, instead of relying on her amazing voice. I'm dying to see her release another "I Wanna Love You Forever"-like song, a dramatic power ballad that really shows her powerful vocals. (When I heard that song the first time, I had no idea who it was...YEARS later I discovered it was Jessica ! And I was like..."WHAAAT ? THAT voice came out of THIS silly girl ?!". I'd never seen the music video...;) ). I'm so pissed her talentless lil' sis is outselling her !

2) Lee Ryan: Ok, I know you US guys have no idea who he is, but the European guys here might know him. He was the lead singer of Blue, a british boyband that has now split up. And although as a member (or better, as the key member of Blue) he was very successful, all the success faded as soon as he tried to start a solo career. Now his career is reeeeeeally going down the drain, and IT AIN'T FAIR !!!!! He has an un-fucking-believable voice (he's probably the best male voice out there...seriously. HUGE vocal range, powerful pipes, excellent technique...this voice is PERFECTION. He's like the male Xtina or Mariah). And he's a great songwriter too . I got his debut solo album and all of the songs were GREAT . Which is why it pisses me off even more that his career isn't as big as I thought it would become !

I get really angry when someone like Justin Timberlake can sell zillions of records and have huge, WORLDWIDE success and achieve superstardom with his (mostly) boring and bland songs and breathy lil'voice, while Lee Ryan and his show-stopping voice and deep, meaningful songs are left in the B-list.

There ya go !

Luminox....my friend actually sent me some Lee Ryan songs....he's really good...her and I are always looking for guys with pretty voices and he takes the cake on her best discovery so far. I also like his bandmate Simon Webbe's solo stuff...never heard any Blue songs but would you say if I liked both of their solo stuff I would like the bands stuff? or is it basically your cheesy boyband stuff?

Bostonboy20 : no, Blue had great songs too . Grrrrrrreat stuff !!! It's not your typical cheesy teeny bubblegum trash, they have some amazing songs. If you know any sites where you can download mp3s, or a programme such as Emule, try the following songs :

- "Breathe Easy" (my favorite Blue song, and one of my favorite songs EVER)
- " One Love"
- " U Make Me Wanna"

...and tell me what you think ! (or maybe you can watch them on Youtube at least. I don't know if they're there...)

Which songs did she give you ?? Just out of curiosity...I think the best one of his solo songs is "How Do I" or "Turn Your Car Around"...although I like all of them. With that voice, he can sing the Webster dictionary as far as I care....(sigh) ;)

I just checked out Youtube. Yup, "Breathe Easy" sure is there ! Both the music video and the live performance from their Wembley concert 3 years ago...and the live version is OFF THE HOOk !!!

Luminox....she sent me "Army of Lovers", "Real Love", "Close To You", "Free", "Peaches", and "Beautiful Spiritual".

I just dl'ed the Blue songs you mentioned i'm gonna give them a listen in a bit!
