How risky is it to have unprotected oral sex. Anytime I have oral, giving or recieving with someone I don't use condoms. I only use them when penetration is involved. Is it very risky?

888 Yep I contracted a STI from my last blow job now my doctor gave me a remedy. So I have a cream to heal it but it's very boring and very painful.

As far as recieving oral, can you get a lot of diseases? How risky is that? I know giving is more risky.

with oral the only way to get something like hiv is if there is a break in the skin in your mouth and it comes in to contact with sperm or secretions (did i spell that correctly?) like after you brush your teeth as tooth brushes scratch your gums. you can cath other STIs but i think they are all treatable just really rather poohy to have. medication is usually all that is needed. really just test on a fairly regular baisis like once a month depending on how much sex you have and lay off the one night stands. wait at least long enough to ask if theyt have anything.

oh and if it's red and infected dont suck it lol

btw that article is really depressing!!

"The surest way to avoid transmission of sexually transmitted diseases is to abstain from sexual intercourse,"

This statement is incorrect.

While having poor oral health increases the risk of HIV transmission there are documented cases of transmission of HIV by oral sex to people who had no oral health problems at the time.

i didn't mean oral heath problems. a scratch on your gums is not an oral health problem its just a part of life it happens all the time it's just such minor thing you dont notice it and would certianlly never be classed as an oral health problem. a break in the skin of your gums is almost impossible to see i think because they are generally so small. so there! lol

so in conclusion, brushing your teeth before oral sex for example increasses your chances of catching HIV as it is transferred through bodilly secreations (is that spelt right?) also dont do it with a mouth ucler as that leaves you at a much higher risk of getting something. it's a hole in to your body!

it is rare to catch HIV through oral sex otherwise :-)

also, [EDIT] regular tests (ie every couple of months depending on sexually activity) are extreamly important. laterz!

^contrasted to your earlier statement in which you made it sound as though oral sex was fully safe when you thought you mouth was fine.

Basically I felt you were too reassuring in the way you phrased your earlier post. And even the above post you have fudged the issue. If a break in the gums is too small to see how is someone to know when it is less risky?

Just some additional information,

Recent research found that precum contains equal and sometimes more of the HIV virus then the actual ejaculation. So if you're doing oral and you think I'll just have them shoot on my face, you are still at high-risk even though unprotected oral sex is considered a low/medium risk activity.

Just my 2 cents.

Depends on what kind of risk you're thinking of?

If you're talking about regular STIs then yes it's risky - you can contract several types of STIs from unprotected oral sex.

If you're talking about HIV then it's a different ball game - it all depends on whether or not you have any gum disease, or any other ways in - if you brush your teeth before oral sex apparently you increase your chances of acquiring something including HIV. But it also depends on the level of the viral load of the HIV+ person. The rates of contraction of HIV from oral sex is extremely small but other STIs are easier to catch.

Overall you can contract any number of STIs from unprotected oral sex - including HIV - but it all depends on a lot of different factors.

True. Although the risk of HIV infection is (extremely) minimal with oral sex there is much risk of getting other viral and incurable conditions such as Herpes.
If you are eating his cum the bacterial stuff can also infect you.
Gonorrhoea
is a common one.

But bacterial infections can be cured.

Dude why don't you just have sex with people you know? I've never gotten an STD because I don't do random hookups. I don't understand why a lot of gay men want to whore themselves around so much. While this method does not guarantee disease free sex, it will reduce the chances of catching something.

I'm really shocked that people are still asking these questions. I thought most people knew these kinds of things. What are they teaching (or not teaching) in schools and at home these days?

Just knowing someone will not prevent a disease.

I got non-specific urethritis from someone I knew and it took three months of anti-biotics to clear it up.

It's a particularly nasty urinary infection, because many people don't know they have it. It is generally asymptomatic.

I also know a guy who got HIV from someone he "trusted".
