Urine Analysis - Agree of Disagree?

I have no issue with drug testing. I agree that if you want a job just stop doing drugs. And if you feel so strongly about doing it, then you will just have to find a job that doesnt do drug tests.

We.have.never.fucking.hang.gay.people.

I doubt you have even been to my country.

Hey Ram
Now that you have realised that i never said they hang people for chewing gum
and what i did ask was do they hang gay men you now call me a liar by saying
that i have naver been to your country .
Buddy have been to your country twice albeit for short periods of time en-route
to a wonderfull place you might have heard of it , it is called AUSTRALIA .
So again you become all agressive because i asked a polite question and the
reason why i asked was because i know that Signapore is stunning but also
has what a lot of us would consider quite a draconian legal system and in your
post you said how glad you were that your country hanged people .
So now that has been explained dont call me a liar either.
If you had bothered to read my post correctly you would have seen that i would never have asked such an idiotic question as does your country hang people
for chewing gum . #-o

I made a mistake. I read your post with anger. After reading what the original poster had to say (nothing brilliant to begin with), I admit I was a little "cheesed" off and you got the heat as well even though it wasn't your fault. I may have read it wrongly but I hate it when people assume that just because we are not some westernized white-majority nation, we go around hanging gays. But I shouldn't have reacted that way because I don't think that was your intention after I have read it again.

After a few days later, and together with Doctor Who's latest episode which always cheers me up, I regret not keeping emotions in check and making those posts "rebutting" your posts. You win, I lose. I'm sorry.

I don't want to continue this. We have hijacked this thread enough. If you have more to say, kindly use the pm system.

I currently hire for the US Military. If you have greater than five speeding tickets it must be reviewed and waived. if you have too many infractions then you are disqualified. Of course we also do a complete physical and determine through your past medical records whether you should or should not serve. Believe it or not there are plenty of folks who dont break the laws regularly. or at least not so much as to get repeated tickets.

I am randomly tested and i can think of about fifty different career paths after i get done with this gig that will ALL involve urinalysis. I prefer it. In fact i prefer a work place filled with folks who choose not to use. I was recently in California where you can legally smoke weed if you have a medical reason. You know like you didnt sleep well last night is a good medical reason... or your not hungry.

While i think it is fine to allow the use of MJ. I found many of the people I ended up around were fucking wasted. A lot. They had pot for working and motivation and pot for sleeping. Any addiction is just that. We will always need 7/11 workers and gas station attendants. SO let it be legal. I personally no longer like being around people who are constantly high. My choice. However after California it is cemented. I have no desire to speak with stupid people all day long.

However you cant slight an employer for testing. In many businesses there is a lot of trust that goes from both employer to employee and vice versa. A employer pays you adequately for a job well done. The employer sets the standards for how that job is to be accomplished. if they desire one of those standards to be accomplishing the job while sober then they certainly can test to ensure compliance.

Well I think the US Military is a little different then your average warehouse job. Of course you're going to pull out all the stops when it comes to drug tests and background checks. You're handing them rifles and letting them play with high powered artillery. You don't exactly want potheads in that situation. Not that many potheads would be joining the military anyway. And of course you have the right drug test. It is America after all.

Sounds like you ran into a bunch of jokers in California. Not all Marijuana smokers are stupid people. They don't walk around in a fog all day like Cheech and Chong. Some of them are actually the most intelligent people you could ever meet. And Marijuana is not addictive. I haven't smoked in weeks and I haven't experienced any withdraw symptoms like shaking or cold sweats or anything like that. It just kind of sucked. Damn. I wish I could smoke some pot tonight. Oh well.

Actually I have been doing this for 20 years and even when I came in although the stated policy was Zero Tolerance for dope people smoked all the time.

I have experience with many types of potheads. One of my two most favorite people on earth is an accountant, independently employed and a regular partaker of the cheeba. SO I know plenty of pople who can function at quite a high level. (no pun intended)

I was being an ass a bit. In cali it wasnt all stupid just a malaise ... just indifferent. I for one believe there are things in life you should get excited about... not just be like .... cool

I smoked a ton of weed in my youth... I mean a ton of very high quality shit. I may or may not have tried the stuff in California. I can testify that smoking does not bring out your best potential.

If there were a surefire way to determine that you were not bringing that shit into work the next day by smoking up prior to work then i could care less. But there is no true way that is cost effective. So employers have the right to weed out employees. (Again no pun intended). You cant be drunk at work can you? Can you tell pretty quickly if someone is hittin the sauce? What about hittin a bong?

You cant tell so thus the rules.

OK..... The words in bold were wrong (I added the corrections in parentheses). And it seems you believe America is the only continent that should be allowed to drug test/background check its military forces. You state that it is America after all. Would this not also imply that all companies within the borders of "America" should also be drug testing/background checking? They are America after all.

But then you go on to suggest that warehouse workers shouldn't need to be drug tested....... So driving forklifts isn't an issue but carrying rifles and playing with high powered artillery IS a problem. You do realize that at least 75% of the time not even those who are certified to handle that high powered artillery are actually handling it.

As for some potheads being the most intelligent people....... Show me one truly intelligent pothead, because I have yet to find any.

I've never used any illicit substance - never even been drunk. But if ajob requires a drug test, I don't apply. Because it's a company that I don't want to work for.

1. Drug testing by urinalysis unfairly targets people who smoke marijuana. A majority of the drugs tested for pass through your system in about 24 to 48 hours. You might say (as some have said), "well marijuana is still illegal!" Yes that's true but you can't unfairly target just one crime without a compelling reasons. For example if you were to crack down only on prostitutes but not those who hire them, that would be legally suspect. A court case in California essentially said as much. I realize it's not an exact analogue but the basic logical still stands. If drugs are illegal than you need a method that tests for all of them as equally as possible.

2. If it's a matter of wanting an employee that you can depend on then by all means drug test me but at the same time you should also ask me if I am an alcoholic. Being a alcoholic would, as much as doing drugs, make me less dependable.

3. While I am on the subject, you know what else is illegal? DUI and Drunk and Disorderly Conduct but unless you are applying for a job where you are specifically driving, I know plenty of people who have those on their record and yet have had no problems finding a job nor have been fired for doing that while employed. Of course one might argue that those are singular occurrences but I could make the same argument for failing a drug test.

4. So in conclusion. Yes illegal things are illegal and statistically you would be more prone to breaking the rules. However, if that is the case then all illegal behavior should be equally suspect. Basically, I may not agree with your rules but if you are at least logically consistent then fine I'll play ball.
