Think they will start going down on price?

Or any time soon?

Looking for a used little truck or mini van, but prices are way too much.

I found this online:

"Since the Covid pandemic used prices have soared - up as much as 32% between 2021 and 2022, according to some sellers - but the latest quarterly data from AA Cars shows a minor 0.3% change in 2023 compared with 2022 for the 20 most popular models. That follows a similar 0.2% increase in the last three months of last year."

I'm not sure how the UK and US markets compare, but the answer appears to be that secondhand prices are now pretty steady.

That is what I am worried about. I am seeing cars 20 years old selling for more than what they sold for new. No way I will ever be able to afford an old used truck or van.

Well what is your price range for the truck?

A car salesman told me they still have a shortage of used cars going on more and more people is holding on to their car since things are too high.

Under a thousand. I only need it to move my mobility scooter around when I go to events or places with more walking than I can do. Other than that I would loan it to my brother's family and keep it at their place as I have no parking around here and they all have gas hogs.

I am sorry to tell you that your expectations are unrealistic. Cars that low are being sold for parts or scrap.

Even in rural areas where prices might be depressed from a private seller if you caught the right deal, less than $1,000 pretty much means you won't have a car long. If your budget is that low, you'll never be able to afford the repairs that ANY car in that price range will inevitably need, and soon, and likely repeatedly.

Your quality will improve substantially if you'll look in the $2500 to $5000 range. If that's too much, you're likely better off saving the money and paying someone to drive you who isn't working for Uber, etc.

Cars that cheap is on its last legs and its barely working. My brother had 2 cars that were cheap and they didn't even last a year they always had problems.

If you look on market place on facebook they sell old cars for way too much.

I agree with you both. I was hoping for a really old Datsun truck or something like it. My family has had one from the 1970's and still runs great. But yeah it would probably be cheaper to rent a U-Haul truck whenever I need one.

Or, if you're going with a helper, a friend, or family member, pay U-haul to install a trailer hitch on their car. That's not expensive. Then buy a trailer hitch and keep. Also cheap. When you know ahead of time that you will need the scooter, rent the small trailer from U-haul, or anyone else (like equipment rentals at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.) and only pay a modest $30 or so for a 24-hour open trailer rental. If you worry about your scooter open, you can lock it down with a bike lock, etc. I don't think the theft rate is much for mobility scooters, so low risk anyway.

And if you have both a friend and a family member, get trailer hitches installed for both. It's a win-win, since they will be able to haul light trailers. Any car can.

On the Datsun miracle, it's possible, but you're just much, much more likely to get someone else's old workhorse, AFTER it has broken down and begins its spiral into the crusher. That's when they sell them. The fact that your family still has theirs is People's Exhibit #1.

I have checked in to getting a hitch for my car so I could get a lift, but it seems my car is only rated for the class 1 hitch. All of the lifts I have priced need to be class 3 or 4.

I'm not talking about a lift, but a light, small trailer. It would be easy to roll on and roll off. The hitch doesn't have to bear a lot of weight because the trailer does it.

I have price those as well. I spoke with A Honda tech and he said I could try a trailer, but Accords are not really rated to pull things or for lifts. HE said there was a chance it would mess up my car which I can't have.
