Values

Some people think that who you are consists of what you value. That your values make you the being that you are.

What is sad, is that many of our values are created by our family, our friends and our society without too much thought by us. I feel that I need to explore what it is that I truly believe and what it is that I truly value.

I decided to post this under the category of passions, mainly as a lark, knowing that it is only me that will read this, it seemed somewhat appropriate.

I know people that have great passion for causes, or foods, or sports, or even other people. I've never allowed myself to get passionate about anything. Somehow passion seems to be void of judgemental thinking. Passion seems to be abandonment or abdication of yourself to the cause or object of your passion. That is not something I want to do, maybe I'm too egotistical.

There have been times that I've watched someone oblivious to everything but the game or politician or such. I've seen them create their calendar around this object of their passion. I've wondered what it is like to be so "in love" or so devoted to something; felt that there was something missing from my life.

But then, I've seen a few people with compassion and when compared to those with passion, I would rather strive to be compassionate.

Somehow, the religious person acting in compassion wins my heart more than the ones that are so passionate about fighting the enemies of their faith.

Somehow, the politician that acts in compassion and works to build understanding and unity is more admirable than the one that passionate fights for his own vision to the exclusion of all others.

and with today's politics, it is not really about values at all; it is about vices for hatred is a vice.

I do fear the continued control by the GOP [Greed Over People]. They have stuffed the courts with those that rule on their beliefs rather than the law. We are watching the destruction of our society and doing nothing.

The media companies of the US have no ethics nor journalistic standards. Like the corporations that are causing the rising prices through greedflation, the news outlets are only motivated by the bottom line. They do not report news nor search for truth, but rather sell sensationalism and hype drama that have no substance.

So sad and so infuriating.
