Vanessa Williams' music career still on track

"Ugly Betty" actress Vanessa Williams has not turned her back on her music career - she's planning to release her ninth studio album in early 2008. Williams, 44, released her first single in 1988 and went on to sell over six million records worldwide. And although the star is busy with the hit TV series, she admits she has not given up on singing just yet, having signed a new contract with Concord Records earlier this year. She says, "I was in Rio for Christmas working on a couple of songs and I'm going back into the studio in the next couple of months so hopefully I should have something ready by the time the next season of "Ugly Betty" ends."

That might help her, but don't forget the fact that she is one of the leads in the hottest tv show around so people will notice her album when as soon as it gets release.

I remember watching that September night in 1983 when she was crowned the first African-American Miss America ... and then in the summer of 1984 when she gracefully relinquished her crown.

To this day, in my opinion, the most beautiful woman on the planet (even though I heard she's a major bitch to get along with!)

I agree, Jy. She's one of the few women around who can actually act, sing and dance. Add her looks to the equation and the stupid claim about her bad temper is all you have against her persona.

Vanessa is one of those singers who doesn't have to have the #1 album or record to feel like she's doing worthwhile music. Her 2005 album Everlasting Love was amazing!

It never ceases to amaze me how preoccupied some people are about sales. Believe it or not, it's not always the most important thing to a performer. Besides... Vanessa Williams is not hurting for money, so good for her to be able to do music she wants to do as opposed to worrying if she will sell enough singles to be on a Pepsi commercial.
