Has the issue of popcorn lung, and other associated health problems with vaping (thc) been resolved? I believe that buying from a dispensary is safe because of regulations, not sure. Have they removed vitamin E (the culprit),or was this a street-purchase problem all along? I haven't heard of any terrifying stories lately of first-time users dieing or suffering consequences but also have not heard why or how (if?) it's now deemed to be "safe."

The syndrome has been labeled "e-cigarette, or vaping, product use-associated lung injury" or EVALI.

The conclusion was that EVALI was likely associated with vitamin E that had been added to THC vaping solutions. Vaping solutions manufacturing is not regulated and manufacturers are not regulated by the FDA, so you can't be sure of what is in the solution. Because of this, the CDC and FDA are still recommending that people not vape with THC solutions.

Notice when they stopped updating it - Feb 2020. The CDC has been overwhelmed with the COVID-19 crisis since March, 2020. That allowed EVALI to fall out of the news cycle while the media was also focused upon COVID-19.

There's a couple of things related to EVALI that muddy the waters:

1. EVALI is considered a "diagnosis of exclusion". There's not a single test that can be run on a living person that would diagnose EVALI. What happens is that the tests are done to rule out COVID-19, influenza, pneumonia, trauma, cardiac disease, et al. Once they've ruled out all these other causes of respiratory failure, a patient with a history of vaping is suspected of having EVALI.
2. During the pandemic, there were some surveys done that showed that people were reporting that they were vaping less. The people who did report that they were vaping indicated that they were using pre-filled cartridges that were purchased and not using the homemade solutions that had been associated with EVALI.
