hty2 put it best:
November 11 is one of those obscure American holidays, like Labor Day and Columbus Day, that seem to have lost meaning over the years. It’s just another day off for many people—if that. There are few special Veterans Day events and no traditional meal, gifts or greeting cards. It simply isn’t part of important holiday traditions for most families, but to those who have members who have either served or who are serving now, Veterans Day has a very special meaning. It is a day to honor those individuals who serve in this nation’s military.

What is an American military veteran? He or she is an ordinary and yet an extraordinary human being, a person who offered some of his or her life's most vital years to serve our country and who sacrificed personal ambitions so others would not have to sacrifice theirs. He or she is a soldier, savior and a sword against the darkness, and is nothing less than the finest and greatest testimony of selflessness on behalf of the greatest nation ever known. On this Veterans Day, remember this and thank a veteran or any member of the military you either know or have occasion to meet.

Thanks Dynk!! I too want to thank all my fellow veterans!! And of course, we continue to thank all those who are currently serving us in the various branches of the military.

Thank you to all who have served are serving and who will be serving in our military. Without you and your sacrifices none of us would be enjoying what we have today. God bless you all and Semper Fi.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have served your country well. And a special thanks to all those now serving in Afghanistan and Iraq...| :D (*8*)

My best wishes to all our Veteran's and my heartfelt thanks for your service to this nation.

Most especially to my father who himself is a Vietnam Vet. If not for the grace of God, he would not have come home.

We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give. Sir Winston Churchill.

Today was Armistice Day and tomorrow is Remembrance Sunday

I found some! And I salute each and every one of them

Here in Canada today is Rememberance Day. It has so much more meaning to me this year because of all of our soldiers who are fighting the good fight in Afghanistan.

My deepest respect to the Veterans.
I'm going to start a new thread with a concrete question about helping out our brave citizens.

Thank you all who have given some part of your life, even opted for a career,in service of protecting the freedom of all Americans. You have served with pride, duty, and honor...you deserve to always be remembered and appreciated by us whose freedom you defend. And let it be clear that those veterans in need of medical care are treated with the respect ,care, and dignity their service to this nation warrants.Uncle Sam owes them that much.

CTV put together a segment for Remembrance day to the song 'I want you to live' by George Canyon. Caused me to tear up a bit the first time I watched it.
