I am not a fan of Beyonce at all. I will go on record as saying I do not like her as a performer. However, I think you need more evidence than one bad performance to declare someone a "talentless hack".
 
We really do need to come to grips with the fact that, sometimes, people are going to be on opposite sides of a fence. And if there's anything I've learned here at JUB, it's that you cannot convince ANYBODY (especially here) that their favorite artist doesn't shit rainbows. It doesn't matter what "proof" you present.

If you show a video of Diva screeching out a horrible rendition of a classic tune, either Diva was "brilliantly recasting a boring song", or Diva was deathly ill but gamely went on stage anyway.

If you show pictures or video of Diva staggering drukenly around , either Diva was displaying her wicked sense of humor, or Diva works so hard at providing quality entertainment that it's starting to take its toll.

If you show video of Diva shooting a nun in the face at pointblank range, the bitch in the penguin suit totally had it coming.

Let Diva's fans enjoy her work, and when they begin arguing over whether Diva is the best thing to happen to recorded music, or the best thing to happen to the Planet Earth, just shrug and go back to listening to whatever it is YOU like.

Those clips of Beyonce were great, although I never heard one whistle note; I believe she is a note shy of producing those kinds of notes, but I digress. I am an avid fan of Beyonce, simply because she sings live; she does not have a great, great singing voice, but I admire the fact that she can put others, who have been around for decades (Madonna) to shame, with her live singing.

All I want to know is what is everyone defining as singing? I mean, I know what it is, but Beyonce would not be able to control her voice if she did not know how to sing. The worst performance out this assortment of clips was her singing "Listen" at the Grammy's, and she still did a great job, sick.

P.S. I've seen Rihanna sing, and I have no issue with her live singing. Are there some clips I've missed where she has completely butchered a song?

I don't know about the other men or women on here, but I am defending her because she can sing; that is objective. Whether or not one likes Beyonce's voice is subjective. I'm not telling anyone to like or not like Beyonce, but my point is she can sing, she can dance, she can act, and she can perform.

Her level of abilities is objective; she has never performed amazing choreography, she does not have outstanding vocal abilities, and she does not have range or profundity as an actor, but she is a performer and a great live performer. Whether anyone likes her or not is up to him or her.
 
^ I was speaking in a more generic sense. That's why I used the generic term "Diva" rather than use Beyonce's name, or anybody else's, for that matter. I'd feel the same if someone wanted to argue that Aretha Franklin or Leontyne Price was a talentless hack.

Do me a favor. Do you know who Eric Clapton is? of course you do. Guitar God. Go rent The Last Waltz, which is a concert film about a band called the BAND and watch him perform with them. Watch his his guitar strap fall off.

Fast foward the video and then watch Bob Dylan. Yes THE Bob Dylan. watch he and The Band forget who is supposed to play on the song they were singing and watch the song burn down in chaos.

Then go get a video of the Beatles at Shea Stadium. Watch Georges voice crack while doing Harmonies for Nowhere Man.

The Point....Performers are not instruments or synthesizers that cant mess up. You may not like her schtick..heck i dont like her schitck...but dont say she cant sing because of one bad performance.

Perhaps you should research how constant singing affects the voice and then maybe you would thing differently about the video you posted.

I personally think she sucks but she does have talent. Singers aren't robots.
 
Of course she has an incredible voice...she just overdoes it sometimes. Well, a lot.
Saying she has no talent is crazy.

agreed. beyoncedef a great singer... riff, runs, belts all that good stuff. look past your hate towards her and listen to her voice.

and to the whistle comment, a whistle neva came from whitney's mouth nonetheless she's still incredible. i would leave the whistles to:

mariah carey
minnie ripperton
shanice.
thats it.

so yeah... beyonce has immense talent, not just in singing, but in overall performing... :=D:

I'm not a fan of hers, and yes, from 4:10 on she is ridiculous, but she really isn't a bad singer.
She's waaaaay better than Rhianna and Nicole Werzefazegir (or whatever her name is.) And she has a much stronger voice than Janet Jackson.

Ive seen Beyonce live 5 times.. Each time the shows were phenominal! 3 shows including front row! Her boobs may be tiny when you see her but thats the only thing that makes you go whattttt?!
 
no whistle notes in that vid. I don't think her range is anything special. I'm sure most females (sopranos) could sing every note in that video. I can, lots of other guys too I bet.

She's a pretty good singer, but I don't like her personally since she put out such a nasty song as Irreplaceable.
 
everyone makes a lot of mistakes.... i wouldn't call her a "talentless hack" just for those mistakes...

I won't talk singing technique with you, since your fandom overcomes your sense of reality.
 
Well, her range is slated to be three octaves. That's not exceptional range, but that is not limited range either; I mean, she's no Mariah Carey, but she's no Ciara either.

Anyway, not many men would be able to hit those notes unless they had four or five octave ranges, which is rarer. In addition, I have never heard her hit a whistle note in this video or any other performance she's had. She's been training since she was in her teens, so that means that what you hear is what you get.

Beyonce is a great singer; she knows how to play her instrument well. On the other hand, she is still closer to the average side in the singing world. I like Beyonce, a lot, but I don't get some of the hype over her voice.

In concert, they turn up her microphone to make her seem louder than she really is. She is not that powerful. In addition, she has a thin voice. Anyone who knows anything about speech, singing, or music would know that people with thinner voices are often chosen as backup singers, group singers, and they are hardly chosen in radio.
