Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew how to view a computer's browsing history. I am not talking about way that usually is deleted (temporary internet files, history, cookies, cache, etc.) I know those can be deleted easily, but is there another way that one can find this information?

I am also considering getting some spy software or a key logger. Do I need to buy an actual program or are there decent downloads out there?

Thanks!

easy. install some kind of trojan. too bad every sane person on this planet will use some kind of antivirus software/firewall.

oh and you can get pretty much fucked by the law enforcement if they can prove you installed this on someone elses harddrive.

Re: Viewing your computer's History (not usual way

I'm confused about your post. Can't I view what is on my OWN computer's hard drive?

What are you trying to view?

Are you trying to look at the TEMP INTERNET files that are stored on your computer or your RECENTLY OPENED DOCUMENTS?

I certainly do not recommend installing a KEYLOGGER.

Let us know what history you want to view and then we may be able to assist you further.

Mainly I was thinking about websites visited and other things like that, mainly online stuff.

What are the problems with a key logger?

Thanks!

Re: Viewing your computer's History (not usual way

sounds like you are trying to spy on other people using the computer, not to be recommended. Think what happens when they find out! Then again I may be wrong but I can't see why else you would be wanting a key logger if not to spy on someone.

I might be clutching at straws here but there are better, less underhand ways of finding out if someone else is Gay.

I suspect that you are right...it does appear as though the OP wants to track what someone else is doing on a computer and that is frought with danger.

Re: Viewing your computer's History (not usual way

it very much sounds as if you either want to spy on someone else OR know if you can remove your own trails. your first post does not sound at all as if you want to check your own history. why would you do that when there it is perfectly possible with just not deleting the usual trails. i refrain from telling you any more.

Re: Viewing your computer's History (not usual way

You're right in saying I do want to spy on someone. Let me run an example of a friend's situation and see if it's on the up and up. Actually it's information for him, as I am not married.

So this guy and girl are dating and she gets a computer as a present as a senior in college. The guy and girl get married. Now the guy wants to look at the stuff on her computer because he suspects she may be cheating, etc. Is that wrong? Is it still her computer? If they are married, who's technically is it?

Thanks!

Re: Viewing your computer's History (not usual way

Tell your friend to ask his wife if she's cheating.

If he can't or doesn't believe the answer, they need to talk.

And tell your friend it is not cool for "friends" (i.e., you) to get involved in spying on his partner.

Re: Viewing your computer's History (not usual way

As far as i know installing a key logger is not illegal. I'm reminded of this everyday when i turn on my computer at work. i get a popup that says it's a US government computer and i should expect basically no privacy and anything i do is being watched. in this case i'm clearly being told i'm being spied on.

now in this case, it's not your computer so you shouldn't install it. once you become married your stuff becomes the other person's stuff i think. except maybe a car where your name is on the title or if you have separate checking accounts or something like. i'm not a legal person so i don't know for sure. i would think either of the two people in that house hold could install a key logger and it would be legal. is it a good idea? um...i don't know you'll have to make up your mind on that.

installing a key logger to see if your spouse is cheating would be one way to find out.

Thanks for the advice. I'll just tell my friend not to do it and end all talk about that. Sounds too messy anyway. By the way, I don't believe in karma but it sure seems what goes around comes around....I think that's so weird. Thanks for whoever brought it up.

...Don't get involved in someone else's marital/relationship issues - it will end in disaster for you - seriously!

...And tell your friend it is not cool for "friends" (i.e., you) to get involved in spying on his partner.

The above cover it in a nutshell...don't get involved.

...once you become married your stuff becomes the other person's stuff i think. except maybe a car where your name is on the title or if you have separate checking accounts or something like. i'm not a legal person so i don't know for sure. i would think either of the two people in that house hold could install a key logger and it would be legal. is it a good idea? um...i don't know you'll have to make up your mind on that...

I think you will find that what you bring in to the martial home remains yours and your alone...anything obtained after marriage would be classed as community property.

The fact that the women obtained the computer due to her being a senior in college would certainly fall in the category "before marriage".

Irrespective of that...even in marriage you should expect some form of privacy...but that is a difficult one to answer.

Installing a key logger on YOUR own personal computer is one thing but installing the same on someone else's computer would be highly illegal.

I am like mike here in that I work for a government department and we all had to agree to 'surveillance' of emails and internet access prior to computer access being granted and this was due to the changes in Privacy laws...so each time I log in to the system I know that surveillance is being undertaken.

As other have said...just dont get invovled as you dont want it to come back and bite you in the arse.

you can do whatever you want with your OWN computer. but installing a keylogger on somebody elses computer is illegal.

i believe the OP got enough good advice, let's end this here.
