I have a fairly tricky one.

I've tried McAfee, Avast, Super Anti-Spyware, Rising, Spybot, CCcleaner, and Microsoft's Complete System care and I'm still having the issues.

The issues being, my internet is slow. Like dial up slow and I have the highest speed dsl that verizon offers. Also a majority of the time to get the webpage fully loaded I have to refresh the page 2,3, sometimes 4 times. As well as internet explorer and firefox crash frequently. The biggest concern of mine though is that my anti-virus shields keep getting shut off and I don't notice right away, but the last two weeks it's become a daily thing. Usually If I manually click them back on they'll go up, but like right now and a few times before this the shields we shut down and now they're not coming back on even if I try to manually do so.

Do any of these symptoms sound familar to a virus that you may now how to get rid of?

make sure you only have one anti virus program installed at a time. then try running a virus scane while in safemode. you should press F8 at start up before you see the windows startup logo. run your anti virus program and antispyware etc programs in safemode and see if they come up with anything. hopefully they will start in safemode.

Assuming that your internet service from Verizon is working properly and, assuming you are not using a wireless router...

I would first do what mike_n_herrin suggests. However, this does not sound like a virus problem to me. I'm not saying it's not a virus...just doesn't sound like a virus. It sounds like a memory issue if the computer is running THAT slow. The other thing is that a lot of those resident antivirus programs like McAfee are memory hogs. They WILL slow your computer down. Have you recently installed any new large software programs? If you have, I would suggest uninstalling it and rebooting to see if that makes a difference. Or perform a System Restore using a date prior to installing any new software. When was the last time you did a system defrag? Also go into System Tools and perform a disk cleanup that will rid the computer of temp files and a lot of internet residue garbage. The things I suggest are common things to do if you find your computer is running slow. Hopefully they may eliminate the issue.

Try out MalwareBytes also!

Oh and as for speeding up your computer, try out a free program called COMODO System Cleaner.
