Virus W32/Blaster.Worm Removal

Does anybody know how to remove these from a computer? I can't seem to get this thing removed. I am pretty much unable to do anything on my computer as it shuts down all of the programs I open. I am running the beta version of windows 7 (i haven't been able to install the full version yet because of this). I have been having this problem for the last 6-7 months now and have not had any luck. My brother is much better with computers than I am, but, I don't want to let him work on it because he may find things I don't wish for him to find (dirty things), which then may be relayed back to my parents. So I am forced to do this myself!! :-/

This will bring you along what Topher is describing above - less the KB update which may not be applicable to W7 or included in another update.

Post the scan log here and I'll review it and tell you what to remove. From there we can plan a course of attack to clean things, get your files saved, and a fresh copy of W7 installed.

That sounds great. I'll get on this early this week. I am spending the weekend with my family so I don't want to spend too much time on the internet. But I will get te log to you as soon as I can.

I tried to reboot my operating system in hopes that it would wipe everything clean, including the virus, but I think the virus isn't letting me do that because it failed in the middle of it...... People who design stuff like this are sick.

Also, I must add that I will be installing windows vista once I am able to. It will only be temporary, until I can get my copy of windows 7...... I bought a student deal on the internet from windows and it's a really weird installation scheme, and frankly I am more interested in getting a clean computer at this point than getting windows working . But I will get the logs as soon as I can. This problem has been going on for about 7 months now and it's really hard to get anything done.

Rebooting won't do much to be honest.

Post the log when you can. It'll be a quick download and scan. There should be an option to do a scan and save a log - choose this option.

Whatever scans you attempt to remove this bastard virus do it all OFF LINE.
Many infections will try to "call home" to say they are being threatened.
Sometimes some manual registry editing (check the web for instructions) will partially disable whatever it is so it can be more easily removed.
I've been pretty successful getting rid of these things.......it occasionally even takes a system rollback to completely irradicate "it".

SOOO. I think I got it off. I am using the computer that was previously unable to run any programs. So what now? Should I reinstall my OS? I know it's not necessary, but I have been using a beta version that has been restarting every 2 hours for the last 2 years and frankly it's annoying me!! . I don't really have a usable OS that I can use, but I think I could get vista working with an authentic copy..

I'd recommend a clean install just to be on the safe-side. Also, check your PMs.

What's a clean install?

A clean install is to completely erase the hard disk and install a fresh copy of windows which is why it is advised to have a backup of one's personal files off the computer.
