i already have the patch and it has caused no problems here ..|

must be some other vista ;)

and my realtek sound is working fine to

Well, I am more and more tempting to go back to windows 98 second edition.

that is just too funny. animated cursors must be really really evil. i wonder WHAT the heck they did patch in the patch to cause that much havoc? almost seems as if animated cursors are very deeply rooted in the system .

Way to go Hunky - you'll be using pen and paper next and then a calculus (the wooden one with beads - I actually quite liked them). ;)

not to be rude but i think you were refering to an Abacus. :-)

It seems the Realtek problem only affects Win XP SP2. The Realtek Audio Control Panel won't start after the patch is installed, and users get an error message about an illegal system DLL. And no sound.

Because of the problems with the patch itself, most security sites yesterday were advising users NOT to patch Windows until the update patch is available. However, they have backed off of that recommendation today, apparently because the exploit is spreading rapidly. Websense now says it is aware of "thousands" of sites with the exploit, and Sophos is recommending Windows users patch away as quickly as possible, despite the risk from the patch itself.

Hackers have been trying to lure people to affected sites by promising that they have nude pictures of Britney Spears. There are spam email campaigns going around, encouraging people to visit affected sites.

But who would be interested in nude pictures of Britney Spears?

so the title should be XP cursor patch may be worse than disease ???

well like i said i have the patch installed and it is working as well as ever ..|

Whatever update(s) came out this week...like weds messed up some people's computers at work. Most of us have XP, some have 2003. The folks in question every time they shut down and then restart the following day their profiles are corrupted. the IT folks have been to the same gal's computer i bet a dozen times in the last two days. this happened a year or so ago also after some server updates, but those were not specific to windows, the IT folks were upgrading some hardware not windows.

This patch thing hit pretty hard where I work, too.

It knocked out dozens of computers in the office where I work. The IT folks were tearing their hair out. They still don't have everyone back up and running yet.

Now they've turned off the auto-update feature for everyone, and we're blocked from connecting to Microsoft from the corporate network. The IT people say they'll handle all updates themselves, from now on.

My Vista says that I don't need the patch and I have autoupdates turned off so that I can control what MS install so I know it hasn't been installed already.

Two of those sites mentioned are still working and I had a look around them (one is Asian so I didn't understand much) but nothing happened to my PC.

Strange that. I suppose everyone should upgrade to Vista after all ;)

oh great now you have done it ;)
