Vista sp1 Upgrade or not

I went to do my upgrade a few of weeks ago, downloaded this file which made some changes which would allow me to download SP1 via Windows Updates. It never did allow me to download it...

^ Do a search for Windows6.0-KB936330-X86.exe

;)

edit: I'm not quite sure what the reviewer on CNET was talking about it talking it hours to install - it only took about 30 minutes for me on a clean(ish) install of Ultimate.

Maybe you are running Windows® Vista® Junior Classmate Home Verybasic free* trial version.
It said that the business versions would take hours

*Not actually free. Certain conditions apply. Vehicles in mirror are closer than they appear. Your actual mileage will probably be less. Free refers to virus state when it went to gold. :D

I thought it's going to be available through Windows Update. ._.

Goddammit, Windows is making me dizzy with all those versions and restrictions!

Vista SP1 has not been released to the public it has only been released to manufacturing. I just came back from MS and there is no d/l of SP1 available. also, on the MS Vista forums the SP1 update will come in 3 stages ..

- you d/l a file to do the update
- then this file will check to see if there are any driver conflicts, if so it wont d/l
- the SP1 files will then d/l

Vista's replacement has been pushed back to 2011 :(

Most people either don't have Vista yet, or don't have it working optimally, and you're already looking for the next Windows?

Anyway, at the rate Vista is going, it could be like Windows Me where many people with Win98 skipped Me altogether and waited for XP. Many people, and businesses, may opt to skip Vista and wait for something more reliable. I work for a fortune 500 company, and our company hasn't even begun to think about switching to Vista yet.

I have Vista, but ever since I got it, I wish I didn't. Maybe by 2011, Vista will be better. Just in time to be replaced with something worse. And the cycle continues.

I automatically got a big Vista update installed last week. Today, I got the exact same updates (if i get it a 3rd time I'm going to be angry). Even after two times for the same update, I can't tell if this was SP1 or not. In the list of applied updates, nothing refers to SP1. In my system info, it still just shows Windows Vista, and not Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (similar to how SPs were handled with XP). Does anyone no if the recent update bundle is in fact SP1?

I've been having a similar problem with my sound driver as of late; I keep getting the same update from both Windows Update and HP Update. One installation removes the other and the other way round.

It's very confusing, stop it. o_O

I upgraded with the RTM version, and for some strange reason it freed up like ~10GB of disk space. Anyone know what that's about? I use the "Disk Cleanup" all the time (including the old restore points) and it never freed up that much.

Loads of Windows elements (like the Start Menu) are working a lot faster now too
