I know the internet and media is filled with misinformation and lies, and that this article is from the New York Post, but . . .

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/struggle-one-exercise-may-higher-071321606.html

Basically it's saying that if you can't go from a standing position to sitting on the ground cross-legged and then back up again, numerous times, without using your hand or arms, then it's not at all unlikely that you will die in six years. Or something like that.

It's not even an exercise. It's a circus feat.

I'm reasonable healthy and limber for 61, but I couldn't do it once. Being an ectomorph, I've always had a problem sitting cross legged anyway, so maybe I'm out of practice, but I couldn't have done this when I was twenty.

Can you do this? I know there are some young'uns here. Give it a try.

I don't think I could do it without my hands and arms when I was young, but that is a long time ago, and now at my age I can't even do it using my hands and arms.

I haven't been able to even stand up from a chair that doesn't have arms for a decade since I broke my hips 10 years ago. I have zero chance of getting up off the floor.

It's just internet garbage.

Anyone who has EVER known old women, and they are many in this world, knows that they were never athletic, had weak legs, and thought "aerobic" was a spray for germs. Old women live for decades and decades without being able to even get up from kneeling without an assist, yet they work their fingers to the bone cleaning, cooking, and gossipping, so are nonetheless active.

When I was attending Episcopal services regularly, I had the secret sin of pride at kneeling for the Eucharist and rising after at the altar rail without using my hands. A lot of people were wondering about that fat man down there.

Ditto
15 years for me
This is all scare mongering old wives' tales, much like the adage that if you have a vertical fold in your ear lobe you are in for a heart attack soon. It's rubbish!

I think I could have done it when I was 12.

What nonsense. I had to check that it wasn't an April Fools' joke.

Well I guess we'll all be dead in six years, except NotHardUp who has the advantage of divine intervention.

Were you a 61 year old Japanese man you'd be able to accomplish this pretty easily, as you had been doing it or sitting back on your heels since you were a boy. Watch "Shōgun"--currently streaming--and you'll see both positions.
