NASA issued an award to Boeing Aircraft for the "Sustainable Flight Demonstrator Project", which uses a new wing design promising to cut fuel use by as much as 10% for a new generation of single-aisle airliners. Under the Funded Space Act Agreement, Boeing will work with NASA to build, test, and fly a full-scale demonstrator aircraft called the "Boeing Transonic Truss-Braced Wing" aircraft and validate technologies aimed at lowering emissions and fuel consumption. NASA will invest $425 million, while Boeing and its partners will contribute the remaining $725 million.
