WAKANDA FOREVER!

Well, it certainly had a lot of stuff in it.

I will be interested in your review, to be honest.

I lied, I'm at the theater now, couldn't wait. Gonna skip the trailers and step outside to hit the portable bong. :gogirl:

I'm curious to see the LGBT moment that got it banned in China. The way homophobes are commenting on facebook they took their tops off and started tongue-punching each others' tonsils. Someone less bigoted says it was just a peck on the forehead in the background. Anywho, can't wait. :gogirl: My review when I get home.

I hit the bong again so this review is spastic.

The themes of grief and loss were overwhelming, thanks in part to the actual passing of Chadiwck Boseman. The #recasttchalla movement had little to do with the character or narrative.... I'm not a comic die-hard but I know that there were multiple Black Panthers so a new BP is not a concept Marvel sloppily threw together. 90% of the #recasttchalla backlash was latent resentment that the film was largely female-drivenn, misogynoir.

I also disagree with many remarks about the length of the film. i'm super sensitive to any kind of filler-- albums, movies, but Wakanda Forever didn't feel bloated at all and is one of the few 2 hour movies I've seen that didn't feel like 2 hours. Each sequence and plotline was relevant. If I have any complaints, the CGI sometimes felt like that department is burning out and rushed to put the graphics together. The underwater scenes were well-designed, but only barely a step up from the CGI rhino disaster from the first film.

If the academy isn't burnt out on Afrocentic films, they deserve another oscar for costume design. I agree that Angela Bassett deserves an award for her portrayal of Romona but... again, black Susan Lucci. As a movie junkie it was a nice departure from the usual trope of handsome brilliant straight white male saves the day, I don't agree with people who say Ironheart felt forced into the story but I get it, taking her out would've saved a half hour and not detracted from the narrative.

Overall-- it goes without saying that the cultural overload was orgasmic for me. I'm so tired of english, within a few years if I'm still here JUB will be the most english that I speak/write. As subtle as it was, I appreciate Marvel honoring the LGBT relationship between Ayo and Aneka. There was just enough comedy, plenty of action and I def appreciate the work that went into the fight scenes which I'm sure took months of preparation-- the casting director sought omega-level athletes for the Dora Milaje and none of the fight sequences were phoned-in. 4.5 outta 5

*Disclaimer I was super high and toasty cuz the theater I went to has a bar so I had a few drinks throughout, ergo I was in a state of being easily-impressed. Gonna watch it again sober in a week or so. Take this with a grain of salt, this is the only movie since BP1 where I get to hear Xhosa. As a Marvel girl, I caught onto certain aspects that may have flown under the radar of casual viewers-- namely Valentina Lafontaine's storyline. Now that I mention her, I can understand how people who aren't familiar with the MCU might not have understood the significance of her role. Ok, going to bed cuz the head is swimming. Kudos Ryan Coogler writing an impactful story after losing his star, excellent acting by Leticia, Angela and my baby Danai. Can't explain why, but even though she had significant screentime Lupita Nyongo felt underused. Anyway, excellent film. Unbiased opinion. :gogirl:
