Self-loathing gays piss me off... I can understand if they are having trouble getting past the persecution and bitter attacks from the close-minded Right world that we live in... but if it gets to the point where they are actively working against gay rights, or just believing that LGBT persons should not have equal rights, then they have crossed the line. The line between me sympathizing with their position and me coldly resenting them.
Its easy to conform, or desire to conform, to the small opinions of the majority on what is right and wrong. In this case easy is completely wrong. We have to find the conviction to stand alone and stand against mainstream in order to establish our individuality... there is no excuse to fall into an anti-gay complex and, for example, believe gay people should not have the right to marry.
The gay community needs to get pissed off and drag the fascist right assholes out into the light and make them accountable for their dangerous opinions. Gay kids are killing themselves 4 times the rate of other kids. What is the gay community doing to stop it? Why are we not pissed off enough to do something about it?
Various figures have coined the term 'Culture War'. People like Pat Buchanan in the U.S. have stated that gay rights is a major front on the culture war. He stated the need to fight against our basic human rights. John Howard in Australia has fought hard against our struggle for equality. Canada's Prime Minister repeatedly stated that Gay Marriage is wrong and that we should not have equal rights because gay people choose to be what they are... he adamantly opposed equal marriage because sexual orientation (he defines it: sexual behaviour) is is in no way analogous to race or ethnicity.
So where are our warriors? We dont have enough, we arent doing enough. If we want to help gay kids who are killing themselves, gay kids who are beaten and tortured mentally and physically by their peers, then we have to act. We have to fight harder than they are. We cant sit around and wait for the world to be enlightened, we have to actively spread it, campaign for it.
There are too many of us sitting on our asses.
Wake the fuck up and look at the pain you can help heal.
You would think that overcoming the adversity we face would make us stronger human beings... strong enough to see the extreme danger in siding with the Canadian Conservative party, or the American Republican party, or other political organizations fighting on the opposite side of reason and justice, fighting against gay people in the culture war.
