someone outside of him and I.

So um my friend is very shy, yadda yadda. He's been with his girlfriend two years and they're cute.

Anyway, one day he was talking about how she doesn't return his texts and how she wants him to be something he's not, blah blah blah.
Later that night, he changed
-his FB relationship status from "in a relationship" to "open relationship".
-his "looking for" from "friendship" to "dating"
-then his interested in from "women" to "women and men"

I'm subscribed to his updates, so I got them, and asked him what was up. He freaked out and changed his relationship status back to "in a relationship", but left everything else the same. Apparently he didn't know FB would tell everyone about the changes xD He wouldn't say anything else >.>

Well, he's cute, caring, blah blah blah, but I guess I wouldn't admit to myself that I like him as more than a friend, because he's like a brother to me and I can be completely honest with him.

Well, I changed my FB status to being okay with how I looked, and he said I was a good-looking guy. Okay.

Later that week, we were talking about a female stalker I have (who's managed to get my phone #, FB profile and address w/o us ever having a conversation >.<) and he said that only affirmed what he said about me being good-looking. Okay then.

Well, that was last week and he's been avoiding me or whatever, but making his statuses about me.

For example, I made a status about hating my life, and he told me to suck it up. Then, right after he made his status about people thinking they have it bad. I asked him to go Xmas shopping with me, and he made his status about oblivious people who are stupid and shouldn't be asking him stuff.

Also, all this week, his statuses have been cursing someone out, calling them a retard and a bunch of nasty stuff. Like very angry, and that's shocking, because he's a very happy person.

He hasn't been responding to any of my attempts to contact him, so wtheck is going on here?

Relationship problems with his gf and I need to back off and give him space? But he said he listens to her sleep over the phone, so it doesn't sound like trouble in paradise to me...Arrgh, I wish he'd respond.

Good news. You're not in high school any more. You're allowed to talk to your friends without doing playing the "tee hee" game. Ask him out for coffee or something, sit down, and ask him if everything is OK. "After your little tiff with your girlfriend, it seemed like you kinda flipped out. Your statuses on FB seem really touchy, you changed a bunch of stuff on your profile. Is everything OK?" And if he brushes it off and says everything is fine (as he probably will), say "OK - I was just kinda worried about you. You know you can talk to me whenever, OK?" Smile and change the subject.

And then...stop playing Scooby Doo & the gang.

Oh Heavens.

Not the stalker thing still??

I think maybe you are spending too much time on Facebook and worrying about status online when you should be focusing on realtime relationships and the world around you.

Thanks Lex, if he ever responds, I'll try that. He hasn't even called back to wish me a Merry Christmas. :(

And rareboy, when you subscribe to someone on FB, it sends you their updates to your phone.

As for that creepy chick, people around me made me aware of her trying to find out my info, so they donned her "a stalker", anway, she's harmless and irrelevant.

Thanks, I hope this blows over.

Nothing personal, but anyone who subscribes to FB updates by phone needs to get a life.

A non-virtual life.

That's so mean :(. Maybe he's trying to isolate himself from you not realizing how connected you are to him. I say you should opt to see him in person. One reassuring good look in person is worth 100s of texts/ fb messages :).

Throw.

The.

Facepagemybookspacetwitter.

Away.

Stop fantasizing/obsessing about stalkers.

....and what the subtext, dramatic fiction possibilities of every encounter may or may not be.

Focus on making 2010 a year for emotional growth and happiness and getting laid.

Your JUB status says no one knows, so unless you are pinging this guys gaydar (him telling you that you are good looking may be him testing the water for a reaction) I'm assuming he has freaked out because he doesn't know you are gay and is worried that he has outed himself intentionally or otherwise. A face to face meeting is the only way forward, and you could consider saying that you get feelings for guys to reassure him that it's ok to talk to you about this if he's clamming up on you. That might then lead to you both opening up to each other further.

hahahahaha @ Lube, everybody my age is addicted to FB. I get updates from people I care about, so I don't have to go on it...

@ rareboy, no fantasizing here, but thanks for trying

@trikky & rainboy, thanks, but he hasn't responded to me @ all.
I'm not the type to constantly bother someone. A call or text a week are enough, I think. I'm not going to show up @ his house uninvited...so he kinda has to communicate w/ me and agree to meet up/hang out.
He's the holed-up-in-his-room-World-of-Warcraft-type, so running into him isn't likely...

If he doesn't hit me up by New Year's, I'll just give him space until he's over whatever his problem is...
I miss him... >.<

Hey, I'm addicted to FB, too.

But I use it as a way to get invited to parties and bear events, invite people for coffee, lunch, or a party, etc. I post photos and look at other people's photos. That way, the next time I see them in person, we can chat about the funny/interesting photos I've seen and what they've been doing. I get more photos on my food pics than just about anything else (I'm a pretty good cook).

It's one tool among others to be social with real live people.

Well in that case Ally I say just leave him alone he'll probably call you eventually. Just let him miss you...if you keep texting him he's not going to respond, but if you give him some time, he'll come around :).

So he hit me up Wednesday and said he just saw the message about going shopping with me and apologized with capital letters and a bunch of exclamation points...

"OMG!!!!!!!! I JUST SAW THIS!!!DUDE! I'M SO SORRY!!!!!!!!! WE COULD'VE GONE! =("

It went something like that, haha. I asked him if he was mad @ me and he said those angry statuses were directed at someone else.

Mmm hmm. I trust him because he's never lied before, and I'm just glad we're talking again.
:)
After the whole New Year's vibe has calmed down, I'm gonna casually ask what the real reason was...10 days without my friend is unacceptable >.<
