Webcam Advice...

I need a little advice from you guys on what I should do in my situation.
I appreciate all the responses, thanks.

About a year or so I secretly purchased a webcam, mainly for the purpose of getting into some hot c2c action. I didn't tell any family members (by the way I live at home) my brother has some idea but I never really came out and said it.

My parents are somewhat strict so I thought why ruffle feathers when I really dont need to.

Anyways come this September I am moving out and going to school away from home. I am thinking this is the perfect time to let them know about my webcam, I can say I purchased it to stay in touch with them.

I am battling with the thought in my head, still not sure what to do, if I tell them then it will be out in the open and they may not even care, if I keep it secret I can still c2c with others. Not sure, maybe someone can help me out with some advice.

Why do you need to inform your family that you have a web cam? It isn't like they will know what you are actually doing. If they discover it or find out, all you have to say is that you got it so that you can talk to long distance friends for free.

Im sorry but this thread makes no sense. You are sounding like a 12 year old that is sneaking drugs into the house... its a webcam lol no big deal they come on all laptops now a days

Thanks for all the replies, obviously some families are different than others, I have the webcam installed on my own personal labtop.

I feel its important that they know so I don't have to sneak it around everytime I go on webcam.

As for my age I am 22. Thanks for those that actually gave advice. Remember some families are stricter than the households you may live in, so a little consideration would have been nice.

I don't think you're getting what people are saying.

You should probably refrain from having the webcam until you come back from school during a break. But when your rents say, so when did you get the webcam, you can just say, I got it up at school. If they ask why, which I don't understand why they would, say so you can webcam with your friends while away from school.

You seem think think that getting a webcam implies cybering. It doesn't. So when asked, hey, why did you spend money on a webcam, you can say cause you thought it was neat and always wanted one.

Does that make any sense?

A webcam is not like a vibrator.

It is possible to use a cam for more than taking your clothes off too. It can be used to enrich an audio conversation by allowing visual expressions to be incorporated. It can be used to show people things other than the contents of your underwear. I'm sure your parents have more than a one track imagination and would welcome you communicating with them using it.

I just don't think it's gonna be an issue. I mean, you probably look at porn on your laptop, but you don't feel the need to justify its existence to your parents, do you? "Nope, it's not for porn. Definitely not for porn." Similarly, webcams are now nearly omnipresent on computers, and people don't feel the need to justify their presence to people. It's part of the computer. No biggie.
