Ambition has long since driven individuals and families to make a calculus of eschange, surrendering virtue, or sex, for opportunity.

We define the imbalance of power as abuse. It has not always been so.

There is a great deal of redefining things as rape, etc. Whether we agree with sleeping with teenagers or not, they often make this decision in order to enjoy material things, of have a shot at fame and riches. They were not imprisoned. They apparently were not threatened or beaten.

Using this definition of abuse, half the marriages that occurred in the 19th century were abuse.

I'm no fan of pop music. I'm ignorant of Japan's modern cultural dynamics. I've never heard of J-pop before. But the whole scenario bears more than a slight resemblance to Michael Jackson's duality. And Harvey Weinstein.

I'm not attracted to minors, but I disagree with the crusade. If 2000 teens were affected, the public would get quite a different impression if they learned 1980 of them leapt at the chance for fame and riches, sleeping with a man old enough to be their father or grandfather, while also sleeping with other teens and fans, then the public wouldn't see them as victims as much as gold-diggers. Are they underage? Sure. Are they accountable? Yes, in the eyes of the public, despite the laws protecting them categorically. Let the public watch teen vandals, thieves, and killers and see their reaction to accountability.

But the public will only get the story of the 20 teens who were intimidated and unable to deal with their actions, not the 1980. It's the press' pattern to only depict violence, crime, victimization, and crusades.

The J-Pop boy bands have always had a vibe to them that I can't watch for more than a few seconds. But I have never been a boy band fan even when pervy old queens in England or the US were manufacturing them.
