The title states my question. As a bottom, I would not have burning when I urinate since the infection entered through my anus. Right? So, what are the symptoms?

What about Chlamydia since it often doesn't have any symptoms? Is getting tested for Chlamydia when I get tested for HIV the solution? What is the test for Chlamydia?

Anal gonorrhea doesn't have the usual symptoms that urethral gonorrhea has. It may be symptomatic or you may have a discharge, irritation, burning during defecation or rarely, blood in the stool.

Anal chlamydia is usually asymptomatic.

So how do I know that I need to seek treatment for it?

You'd have to have your doctor do an exam and perhaps run a swab test.

why dont you just get tested for everything once in a while?

I get tested annually for HIV, but I don't think that is enough. There are no walk-in clinics around here. The health department will test for HIV and STDs, but they require an appointment to be made. I suppose I can tell them my name is John Doe.

There's a Planned Parenthood about 30 mins from you. Most PP locations have STD programs for GLBT clients that are affordable and very gay-friendly. They will give you an estimate of the cost of their services over the phone.

Here is a posting from one of my tops on Adam4Adam:

Im just going to be honest with you. I went to get tested Two weeks ago in June for any stds.. They health department called me 3 days later. I answers the phone and this foreign man asked me if my birthday was correct and I told him yes it was. He then proceeded whto tell me that I had chlymidia which is common for young people.. I was so shocked and devastated.. Bc I used condoms always.. and I didn't know what happened.. I wet back that following Monday and took antibiotics which cleared.. In about a week..

Assuming he is telling the truth about always using condoms, how did he get Chlamydia?

Chlamydia can be transmitted via oral sex, not many people suck cocks with condoms, especially in foreplay.

If you sucked his cock, get tested. No reason to panic, Chlamydia is easily treated and pretty much the most common STD, so you will not be the first patient ever for the Doc that comes for Chlamydia.
If you dont want to tell the Doc that you are gay, tell him you had oral intercourse with a girl and now she was tested positive with Chlamydia.

Will the testing procedure be the same if anal intercourse occurred?

No. And one of the reasons that I suggested Planned Parenthood is that the people working there who do the STD testing have heard it all, so it's much easier to tell them the truth (which is always preferable).

Now, you have hit the nail on the head! I asked for an HIV screen for my next check up at the VA clinic. It was "Why do you need another one? You were just tested!" It is as if they have not heard about getting tested every three months. So, I don't see myself explaining to them that I need my ass swabbed because I had anal receptive sex.

It has been five months since my last HIV screen. So I called the health department about getting HIV and STD testing. I was told I need to make an appointment. I asked about doing an anonymous walk-in. No, they need to make a file. I was then asked if I have any symptoms.

Now, the Chlamydia thing has came up. I think I am living in the dark ages around here!:cry::cry:

In spite of some of the increased needs of service men and women returning from the middle east, the VA is primarily focused upon elder care, so they're great if you're looking for the latest in prostate cancer surgery. Not so great on dealing with STDs or with the healthcare needs of gay men.

If you used condoms, the chances are low that you contracted chlamydia from this encounter. However, it sounds like you've never had an anal swab test (which is necessary for chlamydia and gonorrhea), so it's probably a good time to get that done.

For HIV testing and things that just require blood or urine, there are private labs that accept walkins and where you can pay cash with no questions asked. They are expensive, though.

Unfortunately, for tests that require a urethral or anal swab, you have to be seen by a physician, physicians assistant or nurse practitioner who has been trained on how to collect these specimens. So, this leaves your primary care doctor, a public health clinic or a place like Planned Parenthood... especially if you want some degree of anonymity.

In my opinion, your doctor should know anything about you that might have bearing on your health. That means he should know you are a gay male and that you have receptive anal sex.

Sorry that was a brainfart from my side !oops! my think-train was still on the oral path.

No it will not be the same as KaraBulut said already, and that Planned Parenthood sounds like a good idea to me.

Nope. I have never been swabbed at either end, mouth or anus. The VA has taken blood and urine samples. Then in about five days my HIV results were available. I told them only that I have multiple sex partners.

I didn't think that was a big deal since I was neither burning when I urinate nor oozing any type of pus. I don't have any ulcers either. Now, I'm changing my mind since learning that chlamydia is asymptomatic.

Well, I took the plunge and made an appointment with the health department to get tested. I felt anxious about all the information they requested. I provided name, address, phone number and social security number.

My appointment was for today. I had to confirm the information I provided over the phone. In addition, I was asked my marital status, number of dependents and household income. This was at the front desk.

When I got to the examination room, the nurse wanted to know my sexual history, the type of sex I have been having and detail information on all my sex partners for the last three months. The nurse assured me that all this information will be kept confidential. I can just imagine some potential employer learning of my sexual behavior and refusing to hire me. Discrimination still exist in the south!

The exam itself was a cakewalk. I provided an urine sample, two tubes of blood, a swab of my throat, and an anal swab. The results will be available in two weeks. I was given a code to use when I call in and had to provide a password.

I was provided a small bag of condoms and a brochure on STDs. A fitting gift for my troubles.

I forgot to mention that all these tests are free of charge!
