Mainly im asking because i haven't been to gym in about two weeks, i burned my self out. I have done the same thing in and out for the last pass six months and i am so bored out of my mind.
On a usual work out routine i would do about 60 mins of running (thank GOD for Ipods), then about 30mins of assorted weight lifting. I have a VERY crowed gym and its a slaughter house in there, every man for him self grab what you can when you can, and it just doesn't help that i go when people are getting out of school and work. I don't know what to do anymore, im just bored of the gym in general, i need something to revitalize my self. Something that will also help me define my body over all... Any advice?

mine consists of driving to taco bell, handing the cashier my money, and unwrapping a cheesy gordita crunch.

I've been exactly where you're at now...

You NEED a workout pal...

Desparately...

The only other solution I can think of is to hire a trainer for a few weeks to come up with something new...

Good luck...

btw -- a work out buddy that puts out every now and then is a BIG plus...

So you just do random weight routines based on which machine is available? That's no way to achieve solid gains - are you in a position to either change the time you work out, or change to a less crowded gym?

You should have an established routine for each muscle group. I break my workouts up into four days:

Day 1: Chest & Triceps, Day 2: Shoulders & Biceps, Day 3: Back & Traps, Day 4: Legs

I do one ab exercise at the end of each day's workout. I do cardio 4 times per week, preferably not on Legs day. Doing an hour every time is a lot of cardio. If you are actively trying to lose weight then go ahead, but if you're trying to build mass, I'd put a greater focus on the weights and reduce your cardio load some.

Getting stuck in a gym rut happens to us all, but one of the most important things about working out is to constantly shock your body. Mix up exercises, try new ones, lift heavy with lower reps sometimes, or drop the weight and do more reps occasionally.

Half the battle is walking through the gym door. Once you're inside the rest is pretty easy. I find if I miss a week at the gym I'm more prone to bad moods and depression, which make it even HARDER to go back after a break. Seriously, force yourself to get back.

All good advice above, except maybe the Taco Bell stuff. :-) A training buddy is great, coz you have an obligation to be at the gym. If you can afford it, a few sessions with a trainer will give you a whole new programme, new exercises and new motivation.

You must go to the same gym I do. :D

Yeah somewhat too, but I was gonna say my workout consists of BEER, HARDBOILED EGGS and BEANS!

But more seriously, would get a workout buddy or set up three different workout routines and cycle through them over 2-3 weeks or months. You have to change routines now and again to keep from getting bored, but also to allow for working various muscles and at various times.

Is there also a possibility to attend another gym that is less crowded. There is nothing likable about having to fight to get to use equipment and dancing out of everyone's way, etc. Either that or find a way to go at a different time. Only other possibility is a home gym. I have a bowflex and it works great.

Good luck.

i only do gym workout

4 to 5 days a week

runner (something like a treadmill) 25 min

day 1: back, shoulders and chest

day 2: arms

day 3: legs

2 day a week abs.

I never do it in a specific day of the week, sometimes i take 2 or 3 days off, sometimes i take 1 day off between my workout plan.

- Switch the order of the exercises in your plan.

- Try different exercises.

I avoid the gym scene in favor of purchasing my own equipment. Time is the biggest reason, followed by freedom to choose.

My daily work out consist of aprox 1 hour training on Bowflex, followed by 30 minutes walking/jogging & 30 minute cycling in the evenings. Im starting to play w/free weights & jump rope. The biggest motivator for keeping on track is seeing results, however small. I also love being able to kick my bfs' ass [who's bigger & 6 years younger than me, lol].

EXERCISE guys! Loosing 1/2 pounds of muscle a year sitting on the couch is deadly.

Dude,

Your problem is not your routine. It is your lifestyle.

You want to make your little trip to the gym a joy and pleasure. You want to teach yourself that you are doing something that's good for both your body any soul.

If it is a gym, go to the best one there is. Don't save few $$$ and kill all the joy. Grant yourself the joy of swimming ever so often. Muscles do attract other dudes, but an overly too stressed a dude has an unmistikable aura of a chronic loser...

So, chill out for a moment and take a deep breath... and make it into your own personal joy again...

WoW, your soo right! But i don't think im robbing my self tho, i have a 24 membership. Well we do have a pool and a steam room, all of that but i never use it. I really dislike the mens locker room, i have heard some horror stories, and i walked through it once. Well im far from being a virgin, but, my eyes  Over all you said it way better then i could have, thanks for the good advice i will take it into consideration.

I would agree with those that have talked about a regular routine. I too belong to 24 HR fitness for the past several years. The last 18 months I have also used a personal trainer who is really good. I work out 4-5 times a week using the personal trainer once a week. He places a lot of emphasis on having all the routines center around the "core" and balance. Right now he has me doing 2 upper body routines and one lower body routine; which I rotate through during the week. Each routine consists of 6 -8 exercises plus several crunch and stretch exercises at the end. He also likes me to do 3-4 cardio exercises a week at a minimum of 30 minutes each.

When it comes to the weight training routines, he changes those every 4 weeks; otherwise the body muscles get use to what you have been doing and the routine loses its effectiveness.

If the cost of using a personal trainer is an issue, you might consider getting ideas from a fitness site like www.davidrichfitness.com

Well im far from being a virgin, but, my eyes

LOL...I know precisely what you mean!

I have seen spandex stretched to the point I'm sure its only a molecule thick. It'd be one thing if it was straining to contain pure muscled heaven, but usually it's in a valiant but failed effort to keep the jello jiggles off the Richter scale.:D

Do yoga. Its an amazing exercise that you can do wherever you are. You just need a room and your own body. Its helps you define, strengthen and stretch yourself.

I understand the feeling of being tired of your workout. I have found the best way is to mix it up and cross train. I run, swim, do free weights, machines, yoga and pilates....obviously not everyday. I try to combine at least cardio and one other activity 3 times a week or more depending on the time I have...and I walk pretty much everywhere. Getting trapped into a fixed routine can get boring and your body gets used to it. Suprise your body so that you keep yourself on your toes !!(!)

For me, things only get boring when I'm not making progress, not getting stronger, bigger, or whatever my goal of the moment is. If I keep doing the same thing over and over and get nowhere, then I'm doin' the wrong thing. Like Sebastian-K said, you gotta mix things up a bit, move things around.

Albert Einstein said, "Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result, is the definition of insanity."

Now, to actually answer your question:

I am currently on a 3-day split in a 4 day week. That will change in next few weeks.

Day 1: push movements (chest, triceps, anterior and lateral shoulders), and core (pronated plank, inclined crunches)

Day 2: pull movements (back, biceps, rear shoulders, traps), core (lateral plank, lateral crunches on a roman chair)

Day 3: legs (walking lunges - heavy, seated calf raises, squats, romanian or stiff-legged deadlift)

Each workout starts with a 10-minute cardio warm up. Cardio for 20-30 minutes is worked in on off days.

Finally, no matter what your goal, diet is the most important part of seeing results and not getting bored. The best workout in the world is doomed if your not giving your body the right resources in the right quantities at the right times. I think its 70% diet, 30% workout. Whether you're training for marathons, like PHKem, or trying to bulk up, or get ripped, diet plays a key role in success. And success is its own reward.
